| Description |
HMS Pickle is best known for not only saving 160 drowning seamen at the historic Battle of Trafalgar, but was first to bring the news of the victory and the death of Lord Nelson back to Britain in 1805. The current HMS Pickle is a reproduction built in Poland in 1995, and was purchased by her current owners along with her sistership in 2005. In constant charter service since that time, HMS Pickle was a featured representative at the various bicentennial Trafalgar celebrations in the UK. An excellent example of one of the small schooners called 'avisos,' HMS Pickle was originally used to transmit messages, scout ahead of squadrons, and generally act as a tender to the flagship. For those who have read their Patrick O'Brian books, Captain Aubrey kept a similar aviso schooner named 'Ringle' in constant attendance in his later adventures for just such purposes. Solidly built and well maintained in her own yard in Wales, HMS Pickle represents the finest in historical accuracy, with all the features required to produce a true representative of 'A Kings' Ship' from the glory days of sail and high adventure. HMS Pickle is heavily built of dense nordic larch over oak frames, passed her survey with flying colors in January 2006, and has been reissued her British/EU charter certificates in May 2006. HMS Pickle has already had starring roles in several BBC documentaries, and is planning for another which will include an epic voyage to Argentina (will be completed by her sistership if Pickle is sold). HMS Pickle will make a fine seaworthy addition to any charter fleet, historical re-enactment organisation, cinematic effort, or as a truly unique and wonderful yacht for those of a piratical temperament or naval nature (I want one!!). For now, please have a look at the photos and full specifications are coming very soon!!
