COME SHARE IN HER MAGIC AND START REALIZING YOUR DREAMS TODAY!! .'La Baleine' is a 1981 deep keel Freedom 44, Hull #2, built by Tillotson and Pearson Inc. in Rhode Island to Garry Hoyt design with Herreschoff hull. She is the second of only two deep keel [8' draught] 44's built. For the 1984 Observer Singlehanded Atlantic Race [OSTAR] from Plymouth, England across the upwind and current North Atlantic to Rhode Island 1984, she "La Baleine" was completely renovated and refitted with new fully battened Marconi rig with two new carbon fibre/lexan masts, custom built Kenyon Booms with Navtec-Hydraulic Vangs and Outhauls, flattening Main and Mizzen [all operative from the steering cockpit]. New s/steel and lexan hard top dodger capable of being fully enclosed by removable side screens, along with 44 watts Kyocera photovoltaic solar panels. Most of the electronics and all the hardware were also replaced. On completion of the OSTAR, she was overhauled and refitted back to her high performance cruising / racing ability. She has since been maintained in perfect condition in the Eastern Caribbean where she has raced extensively around the buoys, ocean regatttas, mostly single handed and cruised around the easterm and windward Caribbean. "La Baleine" is recognized as having phenomenal ability to windward with maximum speed surfing at 19 knots and racing downwind speeds consistently in the teens. 2004 early 2005 La Baleine was completely refitted with the latest marine quality electrical systems and to higher demand specifications, with interchangeable deep cycle batteries as regular circuit and stage smart alternator, a new 56 hp Yanmar diesel engine, etc, capable of running off shore power or engine with either 12volt or 110volt demand or charged by a new 1500 watt 110 amp Balmer 2 bank battery charger. Other new additions include a new bowsprit, Barient Windlass operable from the cockpit or foot switch, Raymarine ST 4000 autopilot, depth sounder and speed indicator with log, new Kyocera Phot Voltaic Panels, navigation lights and deck light, renovation, servicing and reloading of all Hydraulics, Givens 6 man liferaft, fire extinguishers, two whale hand bilge pumps, electric starter swith an bilge pump, fresh water upump and four circuit sytem, etc.
