The Diesel Duck is based on West Coast Salmon Trollers, which travel long distances and stay out for extended times in harsh seas. The troller yacht design has many advantages over the more common trawler. It is designed to be narrower in the beam, thus handling better in seas. It is more affordable to purchase and to operate. It is also designed to have a backup sailing system for offshore loss of power situations. The boat is comfortable for a long range cruising couple, but it will sleep up to seven. It has full galley complements, and a nice array of electronics.

Our knowledgable owner had a Canadian Boat Yard build the hull and most of the boat, launched it in 2000, and has been cruising it and having more work professionally completed each year. He had a professional mechanic upgrade the originally installed engine to a GM Diesel with 153 HP that gives the boat more power for use in the St. Lawrence. The interior of the vessel is almost complete with only half of the stern cabin and teak and holly flooring to be completed. The back up sail plan is partially completed, still needing the boom to be finished and installed as well as sails and rigging.
