Construction Never heard of Bucklers Hard? They have been around for a while.
In 1793 the young Captain Horatio Nelson, after 5 years languishing on shore, was appointed to the 64-gun line-of-battleship Agamemnon, which had been built at the Bucklers Hard yard some 12 years before. He was delighted with her, "She sails well and handles excellently", he wrote to his wife Fanny, before setting sail for the Mediterranean to carve out possibly the most glorious career in the history of naval warfare. In the ensuing two centuries, the Yard has satisfied many another customer, establishing a record of meticulous craftsmanship and dedicated professionalism that we at Bucklers Hard Boat Builders, are proud to continue.
Built to Lloyds scantlings, the hull is solid fiberglass and the deck is molded fiberglass with a balsa core for stiffness. The maine plywood bulkheads were glassed in place at the time of moulding to assure a good bond. Lead keel ballast is fully encpsulated with fiberglass. The deck and cockpit surface is teak (replaced in 1999)
