This vintage 27’ 1939 Seabird Yawl is located in Bayboro, NC. The Wanderer is not a manufactured boat, but a home built project just like every other seabird that was ever built. The Seabird is the design, developed by Thomas Fleming Day, the editor for the old "Rudder" sailing magazine. She carries two masts like a ketch or schooner but the yawl rig sets the mizzen mast aft of the rudder. so the design has become quite famous over the years as a "go anywhere" boat. It is seaworthy and easy for one person to handle.
Her hull is made of white pine planking over white oak framing. When not under sail, she is powered by a single Yamaha 9.9 HP motor. She has just been through an extensive 2-year re-building process. She has lots of new structural timbers, planks, a new transom, cockpit, aft deck, bowsprit, mizzen mast, main boom and gaff, a whole new interior. She has new wiring and electronics, including VHF, Fish Finder/Depth Sounder, 4 marine speakers, and lights interior and exterior. She comes with 3 anchors, and rode. She also comes with an 8 ft. wooden dingy. The engine is a 2008 and is running great with remote controls in the cockpit. Full suit of sails, gaff main, marconi mizzen, gaff mizzen, genoa, and a jib all in useable condition.
