The thing I really like about thid boat is that it draws your attention gently. It does not have wild graphics, raked arch or an interior that resembles a crayon box, but is such a quiet, classy appearance that you take a second look. That is when you can really appreciate the nice lines, great layout and myriad of features. Every part of this boat looks new, and at under 100 hours it nearly is. The canvas protects both the cockpit and fordeck and it is flawless. A bimini in boot stands ready when you have had your fill of sun.
Boarding will be easy onto the large, extended swim platform. A tuck away swim ladder is out of the way until needed. A centerline towing eye is apermanent fixture. You also get a transom shower and speakers. It is nearly big enough to dance back there, so they may come in handy. Handrails are located in just the right spots.
A large sun pad rests upon the engine access hatch. Entry to the cockpit is starboard through an acrylic gate. A large, comfortable setee to port will seat 4 quite easily. The L-shaped design makes a good spot to relax or have something to eat. The refreshment center to starboard has a sink with running water and plenty of storage for snacks, gear and a good size cooler. Caravelle has placed drink holders in good positions. There is plenty of side panel storage for small items.
The helm and companion seat are tucked behind the curved tinted windshield. The adjustable helm seat has a flip up bolster if you prefer to drive standing up, while the companion seat revolves to enjoy the fun in either direction. A full set of engine gauges to keep track of engine temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage, fuel load and trim are well laid out for good visibility. Speed and engine RPM are large and in the center. A digital depth sounder is easily seen when sitting or standing. Most importantly, the Kenwood sound system with sub-woofer and 6 speakers is controled from the helm.
The helm is done in a burled wood pattern with matching deluxe wheel. Hyrdraulic steering makes it easy to control this peppy bow rider. Docking lights will assist after dark. Opposite the helm, an enclosed head has room for changing and some stowage space as well as a Porta Potti to cut down on trips to the dock.
Walking through the opening windshield brings you to the U-shaped loung with inserts that transform it into a big sun pad. There are well placed grab rails for moving about when underway. A large in deck storage bin will hold water toys, lunch or whatever you have. Pop up cleats and port and starboard bow rail are high grade stainless and add to the sleek look of this 242. There is plent of stowage forward with a dedicated anchor locker on the foredeck. Built in drink holders are recessed both port and starboard.
The heart of this unassuming speedster is the 320 HP Volvo power plant. Both the engine and the Volvo drive, with duo-prop, appear in new condition, a testimate to the care this boat has been given. With the deep V-hull and sharp entry, you will be handle a good chop in comfort. The silent choice exhaust will make this a real wolf in sheeps clothing. All of the wiring and plumbing appears in top condition.
Overall, this is a roomy, comfortable and elegant ride, just right for the family to have a great day on the water. Nothing beats the dignity of an enclosed head, no matter how close of friends you are with.
