Papillon was built in Germany at a shipyard in Wewelfelt near Hamburg in 1935. She was used as a fishing vessel sailing between Germany and Iceland. In 1991 the current owners of the boat converted her and have travelled widely throughout Europe.
Construction was oak hull and frame with a deck of tropical pine, pine booms and steel masts.
