OWNER COMMENTS:
HISTORY of the boat building process:
About 19 years ago I was running the famous junk boat Tai Pan as a charter boat in Pattaya. During routine maintenance work the shipyard placed the trailer on the wrong place and when they guys slipped the boat the keel broke. As a result of this major accident we had to waste the whole ship and started to build a replica of the hull of the old one. After the new hull was finished I got the idea to cut the hull and to extend the hull for another 13 m. This is the reason why the new vessel looks so slender. It took us about one year to finish the extended hull. In 1993 we had to interrupt our building efforts, because the UNO cut off our wood supplies from Cambodia. For building the hull we used only high quality wood called TAKIEN, For the next seven years the hull rested in peace under a roof and the wood of the hull had the time to ripe like a good wine.
After I saw the movie "White squall" in 2000 I got so inspired about this beautiful boat, that I thought I have to finish the our ship. This mysterious decision ate up nearly 7 years of my life. For building the deck and the superstructure we used in parts RED WOOD from Brazil, MAI MA KA and ROSE WOOD from Thailand. The handmade furniture is made of MAI DAENG.
Finally in 2006 the boat was finished.
All the work was done by me. I used of the facilities of the shipyard. I used two overhauled NISSAN RD 8 Diesel-Engines (very easy to repair) and also our 30 KVA generators are simple to handle. Winches are handmade with electro motors and gearboxes. Spare parts for all this you can get everywhere in the world. No hydraulic system for the steering - instead we use a ruder machine with steel cable. No electronic gadgets.
Like any other vessel the boat has room for improvements and this should inspire a new owner. Basically the price for the boat is not the result of existing flat TV screens or gadgets for maneuvering the boat; the price is based on invested money for wood and manpower. However all the visitors said with one voice, that the vessel is a lovely boat - a piece of art.
Why I want to sell the boat?
Time to retire from working on vessels.
