HISTORY OF THE YACHT
NOT JUST ANOTHER HARDIN YACHT DIFFERENT IMPROVEMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE.
The Yacht was subject to a major refit in 2000 through 2003. The owner is a British shipwright; he has spent a lifetime at sea. Cruising many areas of the world he has worked in boatyards all over Europe and the Caribbean. He has captained a variety of yacht charters and he has become a specialist in yacht restoration. All of his years of experience as a British shipwright have led to his upgrades with a cabin modification and the coach roof extended 1ft forward to improve headroom in the pilothouse saloon. Smaller, slightly tinted, windows were installed in 14mm Plexiglas. Opening portholes were installed to improve ventilation in the upper saloon. Outside lockers and seats were molded into the front cabin to give additional strength and to act as wave breakers.
The rig has had many upgrades. It was clear the Hardin needed more power from the foresails. Therefore, a third foresail was added. The boom stays has been moved further aft to increase the slot for tacking which has the effect of making the stays more efficient. The boom has been sent ashore and the sail sheets now lead to winches in the cockpit. The new additional 12mm 1 x 19 SS foresail is set up on a custom-made SS chain plate fitting at the very stem of the vessel. A tough No-1 working Genoa on a brand new 2006 Profurl makes her drive to windward now. For lighter winds, the Harken roller furler 2001 on the end of the bowsprit new 2001 has a large lighter Genoa. With her fully battened mainsail, the yacht has become a very versatile, capable, comfortable, both at sea and in harbour, powerful ocean going cruising yacht. With her traditional long keel, shallow draft and heavy displacement, she is just as happy offshore as she is nosing her way up a small river or muddy creek.
When it goes light and the Iron tops are put on, the Yacht will motor easily at 7 knots without over pushing the engine. If you need to motor up into a head wind, she puts her weight behind her powerful broad shoulders to push her way forward with surprising effect. Her attractive swept up foredeck and topsides help to keep her decks dry in heavy weather.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION INTERIOR
Throughout the vessel all cabins are traditionally appointed with a rich blend of gloss, satin and matt very solid varnished teak and satin white paint surfaces. The deck beams are varnished giving the giving atmosphere of a traditional wooden yacht.
From Foreward: the chain locker is huge. Divided in 2 sections, chains each side. Access through double doors large enough for shoulders for stowing chains and fenders.
Moving aft, the large fwd V berth is new. Strong lockers and shelves of 1 Zapatero Venezuelan purple heart act as steps to climb out on deck through the fwd hatch which is large enough to pass sails through. The V berth cushions are new 2005 of soft Sunbrella to handle wet sails etc. Under is a large specially designed locker which opens up full size to handle wet ropes and sails etc. Otherwise this is a very comfortable well ventilated private cabin.
Mid-saloon, Moving aft through a teak door with ornate hand carvings is the mid cabin. The SS mast compression post in the centre makes a good hand hold. To port lower, a long wide settee berth with pullout facility, storage under. To port upper, a very large single with pullout to make a double. To starboard lower is a settee short berth with storage under 2004. Upper is a berth suitable for small person or child currently used as an open storage locker.
This cabin is ventilated by two 12 Ali. Hatches 2003 protected on deck by the Granny bars. Also a large central skylight hatch opening 4 ways brings a nice breeze though the cabins.
Moving aft, Up two steps and into the Main saloon, varnished teak and holly floor has a hatch to the bilges. We call it the ships hold. It is deep and we stow a lot of deck gear and spares in there. The 120volt water heater is secured there. Also the 2 fresh water tanks and the 2 diesel tanks. Various plumbing items, the pressure water pump, the domestic batteries are raised up on a box across the deep bilges. The companionway steps lift up and lash into the deckhead allowing one to work on the seacock strainers and check the batteries. The teak dining table is to stb and the galley is to port. The owner has cut out and modified the lockers under the saloon L seat and behind the back rest to create more storage. A sliding drinks cabinet pulls out to form a T as part of the galley. There are hatches each side of the companionway under the dodger.
To stb, moving aft into the stb passage, the head. All varnished for ease of cleaning. A shower, Raritan head 2004, wash basin with 1 thick marble top. Plenty of lockers and storage. 3 draws above the engine space for spares and gear. Shower space and teak grate floor. Access to the engine room. The cockpit seat lifts out to allow access and air.
To port, moving aft, of the companionway, the port passage, nav. Station, chart table, radio station, fridge / freezer. A large storage locker aft. 3 draws for storage lockers. A large teak med.cabinet. Under the floor is the Air.con pump and hand bilge pump.
Aft cabin is lovely. All teak finishings. A king size athwartships double bed. The aft windows are a nice feature of these Hardin yachts. Plenty of storage and hanging locker space. A vanity with a mirror make the cabin seem bigger. Steering quadrant and hydraulics under berth.
SUMMARY
The Yacht is an elegant excellent size cruising yacht. She is not slow. We often make passages averaging 6 to 7 knots. She has all the right gear one expects to find on a big spacious cruising 45 ft ketch these days. She handles well under power and under sail. She is a delight at anchor. Steady as a rock. Big airy cabins and saloon down below. The cockpit seats are larger than most bunks and very comfortable to sleep on. The canvas dodger and bimini offers good protection and comfort underway or at anchor. Winches and sheet leads have been modified by the owner to make her manageable by a couple or by the one person on watch at the helm. Her ketch rig is handy and the owner has gone to great lengths to trim the vessel. Now she is so well balanced we often steer by trimming the sails and switching off the autohelm for long hours. Saving precious fuel, energy and generator running hours. Her combination off long keel and hydraulic steering keep her track right on course.
The Yacht is in constant use by her live-aboard owners. She can be made ready for sea in the matter of a few hours. There is always something to do on a yacht of course but the Yacht does not require months of work after you buy her. She does not need thousands of dollars spent on her to make her seaworthy. She is clean and tidy and most of the gear is recent as the inventory reflects. She gets admiring comments from many everywhere she goes. Your capital investment is protected. The Yacht is insured by one of the top European brokers. The price is set at a practical realistic figure to attract serious buyers. The new owners will get many hours of schooling to ensure they benefit the most.
