ENGINE:
Atomic-4 (30hp), New Rebuilt August of 2009. Original Engine with Very Low Hours. Under power, she uses 1/2 gallon per hour at 3300rpm. Cruising range is about 1,000 nautical miles. Two-Blade Fixed propeller.
THE O'DAY 36 MAKES a great choice for those looking for comfortable accommodations and privacy. The forward stateroom with head. Layout is perfect for those traveling with friends or family or who just like to have some extra space while cruising This popular center cockpit model sleeps and cruises 6 comfortably in two separate cabins, vanity sink and shower The well designed salon has traditional port and starboard settees with a large dropleaf dining table, galley aft, full head forward and private V berth stateroom at the bow. The aft-cabin is accessed from the cockpit and has a large double berth and storage.
There are pitifully few shoal draft aft-cabin boats that sail well upwind. But the new O'Day 36 is one that most definitely does. She is the design of the prestigious marine architectural firm of C. Raymond Hunt. Her uncompromising design represents 3,000 man-hours of hard work at the drawing board.
A superior boat upwind. The performance of The O'Day 36 upwind is remarkable. Her low drag and her favorable sail-to-wetted-area ratio combine to drive her close to the wind: an obvious advantage when one must make a landfall to weather on a stormy day.
A private stateroom. The O'Day 36 is one of the few boats her size with a separate aft-cabin. Boats costing twice as much seldom provide this kind of privacy. Her unique double berth lies athwart-ship. Its spaciousness will remind you of a double bed. Wood trim is solid teak. All hand-oiled. Both large-size portholes have removable screens. Headroom is 6'0".
Many 36' boats can sleep six Comfortably. She's sanely divided into three living zones. Her forward area is cavernous: fore cabin, main cabin, galley and private head. Headroom in the main cabin is 6'0".
There's also a large drop leaf table with room for six people. And their elbows. Amidships, there's a deep cockpit that seats six. Aft, lies the private cabin.
The forward head has a toilet, stainless steel washbasin, mirror, pressure water and shower. Headroom is 6'0".
This O'Day 36 includes many extra features: pedestal steering, Atomic Four inboard engine, mainsail, jib, four winches, electric head, 110 shore power, anchor locker, boom yang, opening ports, lightning ground, jiffy reefing system, bow pulpit, stern pulpit, lifelines, nonskid decks, and much, much more.
Purposely overbuilt. The O'Day 36's hull and deck are entirely hand lay-up. More expensive, but better.
Laying-up fiber glass by hand helps keep weightings even. It also minimizes crazings and surface distortions. Hand lay-up results in a sinewy hull. One that's stronger.
Designed by architects. Schaefer hardware abounds: blocks, cleats and chocks. All lines are Samson. Doublebraid. Two Barient 21's are in the cockpit. Both are two speed. Halyard winches are Barient 10's.
Berth cushions are a full one-third thicker than on many boats. Pedestal steering is standard.
SPEED: She's very fast and can avoid most bad weather situations.
COMFORT: Most of the ships operations can be done at the Captains double-size "Aft-Cabin" Birth.
All sails operate from the cockpit. Ideally designed for single handling.
She underwent an extensive stem to stern refit during the summer of 2006 in preparation for a 3 to 5-year cruise to the Caribbean. All of the systems are operational. The boat single-handles surprisingly well. She is very stable in a variety of sea and wind conditions. She is truly a beautiful boat.

She's well laid out and performs all new functions exceptionally well. She has performed superbly over the past 2 years of sailing over 3,500 miles from Tampa, Florida to her present location in Coco Beach, Costa Rica.
Her last bottom paint is Fresh and New for September of 2009 at the Puntarenas Yacht Club Shipyard with Petit Antifouling Paint. She's just now having her bottom repainted. It is rare to find a sailboat of her Quality, Style and Character.

This O'Day 'Aft Cabin' Sailboat is an Exceptionally built, great single-handling and well designed sailboat.
Anyone considering Comfort, Speed and Strength, would certainly know that the O'Day Sailboat Builds Outstanding Sailboats.

Upon entering the companionway the engine room is located aft with freezer/refrigerator located just forward. There are two comfortable "Quarter-Births" located aft-ship at both port and starboard and both are entered from either side of the (insulated) engine room by way of a tapered 1-foot wide by 3-foot long walkway.
To forward there are two comfortable berths, "Pilot-Bed" to port and a "Single-Bed" to starboard.
Both births have ample storage below.
A single "Pipe-Berth" is located above the single-bed which is ideal for storage/shelving.
The "Pilot-Bed/Birth" is 7' long by 5.5' wide is located near mid-ship just to port of companionway.
This birth is entered from the side of the bed. At this station the Pilot/Captain can comfortably maintain the operation of his/her vessel by way of radar, autopilot, depth sounder and/or sonar while watching one of 250 movies.
The "Single-Bed", located across the "Pilot-Bed" is 7' long by 4' wide. There is a small folding table just in front of it.
The galley, sink and storage are located forward and at mid ship starboard with both sea and fresh-water sink taps.
Center hatch located just above at mid-ship.
Stove and considerable galley space with plenty of storage are located just forward of the galley with hatch located just above the stove.
The navigation table is to port across galley with full duel-navigation electronics (wind-speed, etc).
Lavac 12v Automatic head with holding tank, shower is located forward and to port.
To forward the "Extra Large" 8-foot long by 8-foot wide V-Birth cabin is very spacious and comfortable which is now being used as the "Movie-Room".
This birth is entered from the head of the bed and offers privacy by louvered double-doors.
The dressing room with a comfortable seat (4' x 2') is located just aft of the V-Birth and adjacent of the head.
There is and a hanging closet just behind this seat.
CUSHIONS:
All foam and Ultra suede covers by Fortune, new '98. The large cockpit 2" closed cell foam with Sunbrella covers by Fortune new '08. The cockpit converts to allow the area forward of the helm to be used for sleeping.
