MAINTENANCE HISTORY
Every 4/5 Years we spend US$20 thousand+ on up dating equipment and general maintenance (renewing sails & rigging, in 2000 and 2005 repainted the topsides and coach roof. We renewed the teak deck in 2000 She was launched with the Walker electronics which was totally replaced by B&G last updated in 2002, as well as having owner maintenance on a daily basis.
Though we are in one of the world's Tropical Paradises, Thailand and Malaysia, it may seem a long way away and rather foreign when there are enough yachts in their back yard. It is definitely worth the trip and the consideration.
At the moment we are having carpenters and varnishers re-do the below decks having just completed an Awl-Grip paint job on the hull and coachroof.
She is by no means perfect but she is in better condition than most yachts launched in the 90's.
The hull number is 4 of the 435 series. There are very few older (if any) but there are very few in better condition
HISTORY:
It was launched in England in late 1983 under the name of Oyster Love II and registered in Delaware USA. She was sailed to Turkey in 1984 where she remained berthed in Bodrun marina until 1987. The original owner decided that with his new family he needed a larger yacht and so purchased an Oyster 53. We bought the 435 and she was delivered to Gibraltar where we commenced our world cruise, reregistering her in Southampton, England.
In November 1987, having done some minor modifications, we set sail for the Caribbean crossing the Atlantic to Barbados. It was an exciting sail where we gained confidence in the Oyster design and sailing ability making landfall in 17 days & 9 hours, averaging just over 7 knots with a crew of 4. We have had some wonderful times and adventures with her, but now we feel it is time to return to the land.
Once in the Caribbean we enjoyed cruising the windward and leeward islands as well as Central America. As we still owned a tourism business in Rio de Janeiro, we would cruise for six months and work for six months, an ideal situation, giving us the best of both worlds. However, once we crossed the Panama Canal in 1996 we decided to sell the business and stay on board permanently, enjoying the fascinating islands of the Pacific Ocean.
In the year 2000 we arrived in S.E. Asia, cruising to Borneo, the Andaman and Tioman Islands and also inaugurating and running the Royal Langkawi International Regatta for two years.
The vessel was built by Landamores in England and is a Holman and Pye cutter rigged ketch with an 84hp turbo charged Volvo Penta engine. Every 4/5 years we have done a revision, updating equipment and maintaining her in shipshape condition ready and safe to cross any ocean. A short synopsis of what has been done follows.
1991 : USA: Revision, including update and expansion of all electronic equipment and installation of main inmast furling.
1996 : USA: Engine overhaul. West epoxy system on hull, update equipment and replace where necessary for Pacific ocean crossing.
1999: Australia: Changed the rigging as part of maintenance program. Replaced genoa 150%, spinnaker and staysail, update electronic equipment as necessary.
2000: Thailand: Replaced teak decks with 1/2inch forest teak. Painted the topsides and cabin roof area with International Perfection.
2005: Malaysia: Painted the topsides and cabin roof area with Awlgrip cloud white . Replaced Perspex on all opening hatches. Replaced galley stove, sink and plumbing.
