Galley: The galley boasts a double sink with foot pump, a GE
microwave oven, a refrigerator/freezer, a
4-burner stove with oven, and a great deal of stowage. This includes 4 drawers
for utensils, 2 large cabinets for pots and pans, multiple shelves, and plate
holders, as well as a large food stowage area forward. Under is 45 gallons of
fresh water in 3 selectable tanks. An opening hatch is over the stove, and
there are 2 Herreshof opening ports, waterproof in the opened position in all
but the heaviest seas, and 3 lights and a fan.
Salon: A large salon includes a large drop leaf dining table with cushioned
bench seats around, 3 opening hatches, several lights, a Catalytic propane
cabin heater, a TV, and more stowage.
Nav. Station: Instantly adjacent to the cockpit, it includes a
large chart table with chart stowage underneath. There is a bookcase and 2
small stowage compartments. The nav. station includes the Fuerno radar, Kenwood
HF/SSB rig, West VHF, EPIRB, backup depth sounder, backup speed/log, handheld
VHF, backup GPS, Cruising Equipment amp-hour meter, Balmar inverter and
controls, battery charger, and engine hour meters. A 2-way (red/normal) main
light and a chart light. House batteries are located under. All electrical
switches are located in the nav. station.
Cockpit: The cockpit boasts a large drop down, double leaf
dining table and a barbeque. It has two bench seats with floatable cushions as
well as two higher “cat bird” seat positions and a helm seat. It seats up to 8
for dinner. In addition to the helm, it has the Autohelm Seatalk depth sounder,
speed/log, and wind instruments, and a 5” large Ritchie Globemaster SP5
compass. Engine controls and instruments, and an Autohelm 3 self-steering
device. All sail controls lead aft to the cockpit for true single-handed
sailing. Also included are a full dodger, bimini with fold down side curtains,
and a boom crutch, which also incorporates the aft support for the bimini and
the backrest for the “catbird “ seats.
Foredeck: The large foredeck has 2 giant hatches, the
Simpson-Lawrence Seawolf 520 power windless, and the chain locker.
Aft: Ocean Winds boasts two
drop-down swim ladders, and a swim platform with shower. Also located aft is a
throwable horseshoe type life ring with strobe and flag and a Life Sling. There
is also a pair of davits with 4:1 tackle.
Ports and Hatches: Ocean Winds
has 6 Bomar opening hatches and 8 opening ports of a Herreshof design, which
can be closed, opened fully for maximum air, or half way which provide a lot of
air and are waterproof except in the heaviest of seas. She is very “airy” and
fit for maximum comfort in southern climes.
Power: Twin Yanmar 2GM diesel 15 hp inboard engines. Each has its own starter
battery, isolated from the house batteries by a “both, 1, 2, off” switch. Each
has an 80-ampere Balmar alternator controlled via an external Cruising
Equipment Co. Alpha regulator.
Each output is via a bronze Sillette Sonic
“Z” drive to a PYI Max Prop 13”, 3 blade fully feathering prop.
Engine controls are Morse controls, each
controlling both engine speed and forward/reverse modes in one lever per
engine. These are mounted on a cockpit consol also including tachometers, start
keys, shutdown chokes, and a fuel gage. The diesel tank is under the cockpit
floor and has a 50-gallon capacity. Fuel usage at 7 knots is about 2 gallons
per hour, giving a range of 175 nautical miles.
Each engine has an hour meter mounted in the
nav. station, and oil and filters have been religiously changed every 100
hours.
Navigation Lights: Running lights, masthead tri-color, anchor, steaming
and masthead strobe lights. Switches for all are in the nav. station.
Sails: All sails are Thurston. All controls lead aft to the cockpit for truly single-handed
operation.
2 genoas on Furlex roller reefing system.
Reef line leads to the cockpit and is controlled via a Spinlock stopper to a
Barlow 15 winch. Sheets lead aft to 2 Barlow #27, 2 speed, self-tailing
winches. Cockpit control. Halyard is internal and leads to the cockpit and is
controlled via a Spinlock stopper to one of 2 Barlow 15 winches.
Fully battened mainsail. Halyard is
internal, and leads to the cockpit. Controlled via a Spinlock stopper to one of
2 Barlow 15 winches. All controls; 3 reef lines (auto tack and clew), outhaul,
Cunningham, flattener, topping lift, and vang all lead to the cockpit and are
controlled via a Spinlock stopper to one of 2 Barlow 15 winches. Sail cover, of
course. Mainsheet is off the aft end of the boom and has a 2:1 and 4:1 block
system going to a Harkin traveler. All are accessible directly from the
cockpit.
Staysail: Furlex roller reefing system. Reef
line leads to the cockpit and is controlled via a Spinlock stopper to a Barlow
15 winch. Sheets lead aft to the cockpit and are controlled via a Spinlock
stopper to one of 2 Barlow 15 winches. This sail will and has powered the boat
upwind in 42 knots of wind.
Storm trysail: This must be hand mounted,
and has never been used due to the ability of the staysail in rough conditions.
Cruising spinnaker: ¾ ounce nylon, blue,
lime, yellow and white star design. Internal halyard, and the only halyard not
leading aft to the cockpit, it must be winched and cleated on the mast.
Contained with a Spinnaker Sally. Does not need a spinnaker pole; simply secure
the tack to the windward bow and lead the sheet aft to the leeward Barlow 27
self-tailing winch. It really hauls the boat!
Steering: 24” destroyer type wheel uses a Morse pull-pull type
system to control 2 large interconnected stern mounted rudders. Rudders have
protective skegs and 3 point mounting. Autohelm III auto steering with a
backup. This system will hold you steady in 42 knots to windward, and in heavy
quartering and following seas.
Instruments:
Autohelm Seatalk depth sounder, speed/log,
and wind speed/direction indicators, cockpit mounted in front of the wheel.
Depth sounder and speed/log have backups in the nav. station.
Furuno radar good to 16 miles is in the nav.
station and visible from the wheel.
Kenwood TS430-S HF and SSB radio, with Murch
tuner and Autek SWR and Power meter in the nav. station.
West Marine MC795 VHF radio in the nav.
station and controlled from the cockpit.
Cruising Equipment Amp-Hour, Amp, and
Voltage meter in the nav. station.
Engine hour meters in the nav. station.
ACR Satellite 406 EPIRB in the nav. area.
A Garmin GPSmap 176 loaded with charts and
waypoints. A backup Garmin 48.
Engine controls are Morse controls, each
controlling both engine speed and forward/reverse modes in one lever per

including Aqua Meter Ensign tachometers, start keys, shutdown chokes, and the
fuel gage.
Electrical:
Batteries: 2 House batteries of 86 amp-hours
each, with room and connections for 3. These will easily power 2 DVDs each
night and anchor lights, fans, and interior lights when on anchor. These are
isolated from the two engine starter batteries, but all can be combined if
necessary for engine start or charging via “both, 1, 2, off” switch.
Charging:
Each engine has its own starter battery, isolated from the house
batteries by a “both, 1, 2, off” switch. Each has an 80-ampere Balmar
alternator controlled via an external Cruising Equipment Co. Alpha regulator. When at dockside, there is a Deltron
“smartcharger” for charging, equalizing and holding.
120 volt AC: There are several 120-volt
receptacles on board. All served by dockside power and a Balmar inverter capable of outputting 10
amps AC. This will easily run the microwave oven, the refrigerator (3 way,
propane, 12 VDC or 120 VAC), the TV/DVD system, or whatever else you may have
on board.
The batteries power all lights and fans on
board. When at dockside, battery drawdown for these is powered through the
battery charger.
Propane: Ocean Winds
carries 3, 25-pound aluminum tanks. These power the refrigerator when not
motoring, as well as the 4 burner stove, oven, barbecue, cabin heater, and hot
water heater.
Fuel: a 50-gallon tank is located under the cockpit. Capacity provides for a
175 nautical mile range.
Water: Ocean Winds
carries a total of 80 gallons of water in 3 separate 15-gallon selectable tanks
to port and 35 gallons to starboard. A Pur Survivor 35, 1.4 gph water maker is
located to starboard. A ShureFlow pump provides transfer from the starboard
tanks to port, and also provides water pressure to the starboard head, shower,
and transom fresh water rinse. Water saving foot pumps provide fresh water to
the galley and the head.
Ground Tackle:
Main Anchor: 35-pound CQR anchor with 220 feet of 5/16
high tensil chain on a bow roller and leading to a power windless.
Backup Anchor: Fortress FX23
with 30’ of 5/16 high tensil chain and 300 feet of 5/8, 3-strand nylon rode.
Electric Windless with wash
down pump and sprayer. Windless will easily raise the anchor and will pull the
boat up to the anchor in heavy conditions and against strong currents.
Fenders: 2, 15” diameter balls and 2, 10”x24” standard
fenders. Many dock lines.
Sea Anchor: 18’ Para-Anchors parachute with 30’ 5/16 high tensil
chain and 300’ 5/8 3-strand nylon rode. This is set and ready for instant
deployment, but has never been used.
