A potted history of Higgins and The Andrew J:
Higgins Inc. was founded in New Orleans by Jackson Higgins. After WW2 the company flourished from the mid 1940's through the early 1960's. They specialized building painted plywood pleasure and work boats that were enhanced with mahogany transoms and interiors.
Higgins industries is especially famous for their WW2 and Korean war efforts in producing military craft for the Marines, Coast Guard and US Navy. Their most notable wartime craft were the PT Boats (PT 109) and LCVP Landing Craft as used in the movie "Saving Private Ryan" during the D Day landings at Normandy.
The Andrew J's name was sanctioned by Dawn Higgins Murphy, Andrew Jackson Higgins daughter. Dawn still lives down by New Orleans to this day with her husband Bob. There are only about 200 Higgins pleasure boats remaining and only a handful of military craft.
