Custom built Cutter! Craftsmanship only a blue water sailor could appreciate; sea-keeping to match!

This beautifully crafted vessel is modeled after the old English cutters that the pilots used to get out to the commercial ships---stout, fast, fairly shallow draft, excellent sea-keeping ability, and easily handled.

She was built by Ned Crosby of Cape Cod. His family's yard has been building stellar boats for generations. This particular hull is a Peterson design. Although she was a one off for the Crosby yard, there have been about a dozen builds using her hull design in other configurations.

She was not only the subject of a feature article in a 2005 issue of Wooden Boat, she was the cover boat, front and center.

Over the past ten years she has logged innumerable hours sailing the coasts of Maine and Massachusetts, as well as forays to Bermuda, one in extremely heavy weather, but she came through with flying colors.

A few notes about her construction. The cockpit and deck are solid teak, while the hull is planked with cedar on oak frames. Her substantial 43' mast is made of spruce.

She is held together with over 6,000 bronze screws. Her mast is guyed with steel stays, and below the waterline 4,000 pounds of lead ballasts her keel. This is a seriously designed and built old school boat that has been meticulously crafted from the keel up. It really reflects a mindset both from a design and construction standpoint, of an era when boating wasn't fodder for a Facebook posting, but a genuine passion.

Her Nat Wilson sail inventory includes:

Storm Tri
Storm Main

She can sleep 4 and handles 8 on deck in the generous cockpit. Her ultra dependable Yanmar diesel sips a mere 2/3 of a gallon per hour from a generous 32 gallon fuel tank.

If you are a serious sailor who appreciates fine craftsmanship and understand why wood can be a superior material to fiberglass, this is a boat for you to consider.
