The 215 Osprey Sport is an original 1990's model that has been redesigned with much customer and dealer input. Its current reengineering brings more upgraded amenities and features to satisfy today's modern family. The helm has been expanded with more electronics. The bow seating is larger and allows more fishing room. You now have a convenient head in the port side console. You now also have convertible aft seating for fishing or cruising. This new model is said to be low in maintenance requirements, ready for "splash and dash" outings and easy cleanup when you get back to the ramp. It certainly lives up to their claim of being a great weekender boat with family creature comforts whether out for a day of fishing or skiing.
Up front you have a nice molded-in anchor bowsprit with integral roller, covered chain/line hawser and heavy-duty cleat. Stainless steel rails protect the entire forward area. The anchor locker is accessible through a cover in the bow. The forward area has padding surrounding the gunnels and padded seating for bow riders. Storage is abundant up front with a handy sink with faucet on the port side for keeping your hands clean when fishing. To get to the helm area, you pass through a bi-fold lower door and swing away walk-through windshield.
Under the helm is room for storing optional cushions along with the batteries and battery switch. I am pleased to see builders moving the batteries forward to keep the weight from all being aft and where you are more likely to keep them dry rather than immersed quickly in a swamping. Usually, when the batteries go, so does the bilge pump (I've never seen them not go when they are immersed!). You also have a lot of room to work with the instrument panel when you are ready to add more electronics, and Aquasport has provided plenty of room to add more gear.
At the helm, you will be pleased with the weather resistant switches and easy view gauges. The lay out of the panels leaves plenty of room for extra equipment to be installed and two 12vdc outlets for portable gear connections. On the helm side, you have a storage box for tackle and both sides accommodate rods under the gunnels. The companion side sports the optional self-contained porta-potti. My test boat had both the porta-potti and the optional back seat that converted to a lounge for the sunbathers.
Between the helm and the companion seating was a large locker in the floor for wakeboards and other long gear and behind the companion seating was a fish locker. A baitwell was at the stern on the port side. Remote oil fill on the starboard side makes topping off the oil reservoir easy. A raw water wash-down connection at the rear makes keeping the decks a snap to clean, and the integrated swim platform makes boarding the boat after skiing much safer.
I could easily imagine someone using this boat as both a fishing rig and a sport/ski rig. At 22' 6" she really seems much larger, and the 8' 1" beam helps keep her stable in slight to moderate chop at low speed. Her 15" draft (engine up) will make it easier to get closer to shore before you blast off with you skiing friends.
