1978 Corsair Custom 57 Corsair
- Stock #067293 -
Biloxi Schooner, ready to cruise privately, or to convert to a charter / tour boat attraction
The "Corsair" is an award winning classic Biloxi schooner built to the lines of a classic shimper or gulf coast freighter of centuries past.
Her graceful shear and sweet lines adorn a boat that was built to current US Coast Guard standards and her builder believes she could readily be USCG certified for 49 passengers.
She was designed and built and is currently maintained by Captain Michael Broussard of Corsair Custom Wood Boats of Biloxi, MS, a third generation boat builder well known in the area. Captain Broussard has taught at the International School of Yacht Restoration (IRYS).
She is built of Southern White Cedar, very resistant to rot and Pressure Treated Long Leaf Yellow Pine treated with preservatives. Her deck is mahogany, all of the other wood exposed to the weather is .40 CCA pressure treated southern yellow pine that may last centuries, given minimal care and maintenance.
With a length on deck of 57 feet and an overall length of 74 feet, Corsair is an able long range, blue-water sailboat that has been up and down the east coast, serving as a sail training vessel, participating in adverting campaigns and even playing a role in the movie, "Interview with a Vampire"
Alternately described as a pilot house - motor sailor by some, she will comfortably cruise at 8 knots, has a 10 knot top speed under power and has been known to power sail -surf at 14 knots. Her 2000 Perkins Sabrecat (Cat) with 265 HP is very quiet, and sits in a masterly designed engine room that is fully insulated with Sounddown insulation creating a very quiet boat when under power.
The main salon has plenty of room and is adjacent to a galley that is a chef's delight. The head is unique and Corsair may be the only modern schooner equipped with a claw foot tub.
