A classic Alan Gurney offshore design, blue water capable, PHRF rated racing cruiser!
This shoal draft 1977 Islander 36 is hand laid fiberglass, sloop rigged, and features fin keel, skeg mounted rudder, keel stepped LeFeill oversized aluminum mast with double spreaders, and bulkhead-fastened inboard shrouds.
It has been repowered with a new Phasor Marine P3-28-05 diesel engine that currently has 127 hours and it spins a 1"x12" two-blade 9 pitch bronze prop.
It is a fast stiff boat, stoutly constructed and very good looking! The 1977 model is known for being heavier constructed and blister free, as compared to pre 1976 models. It was deemed one of the best sailing boats on San Francisco Bay and was one of Cruising World's " Top 10 Cruising Boats of all Time."

The boat has a piano hinged chart table top with louvered opening doors to cabinet at the navigation station.
The cabin interior has had the headliner removed and features teak bulkheads, paneling and joiner trim.
In the Main Salon there is a starboard dive locker that holds two 80cu tanks and rooms for regs and BC's. There is a port fold up hide-a-way table that serves both settees. The port settee folds out to a double berth and the starboard is a single berth with lee cloths. There are three ventilation fans, fluorescent reading light, thru bolted Lexan windows, three dogged opening ports, ventilation hatch and solar-charged Nicro vent and the companionway opens to engine compartment with storage under hinged steps.
The galley has a new Force 10 gimbaled two burner propane stove with infrared broiler, propane safety shut-off valve and a storage bin below. A new Adler/ Barbour Cold Machine in two lazarettes is installed and there is a stainless sink with a foot pump that provides fresh or salt water. Storage surrounds.
The head is plumbed to a holding tank, or to overboard discharge, or to a deck pump-out with a lockout valve. The shower is a telephone type and there is a round stainless steel basin.
In the Forepeak there is a V-berth with fill-in section and generous stowage beneath, a starboard hanging locker, six slide drawers, an upgraded heavy duty dogged offshore ventilation hatch, two dogged opening ports ventilation fan and two fluorescent lights.
The standing rigging has Hyde roller furling removed and a Tides Marine Strong Sail Track System installed. A fully battened mainsail with gimbaled double reef system, a new masthead sheave and 7/16"- 1/2" Sta-Set yacht braid halyards,spreader boots,,rigging tape, keelson and harken roller furling forestay inspected and serviced with new 5/16" Sta-Set yacht braid.
The running rigging has an aluminum Harkin Big Boat Mainsheet Traveler, oversized spinnaker pole, two Lewmar model 44 2 speed self-tailing offshore main winches, two Lewmar model 25 mast halyard winches, a boom vang and a deck eye for staysail cutter rig.
Sail inventory includes a fully battened gimbaled two-point reefing boom-mounted mainsail and nylon reef points, a bagged spare main, 150% genoa on Harken roller-furling, a spinnaker, asymmetrical drifter and a storm jib/staysail.
