This 1979 Islander Peterson 40 was originally a San Francisco boat first owned and equipped by the Islander Yachts dealer (hence, the name "Dealer's Choice.") She was raced in her first two seasons by Tom Blackaller and Chris Corlett.

This boat is easily balanced, sturdy and sails very well. She has won many races and has a fine pedigree from renowned America's Cup designer Doug Peterson.

This is a true multi-purpose yacht which is a comfortable live aboard, at home on the race course and an excellent leisure weekend or long-range cruiser. The current owners have found many fine anchorages aboard in the Hawaiian Islands.

The current owner refurbished the boat in 1998-99 with the goals of making her as simple as possible to maintain, without extraneous gear, keeping her light and easy to sail and ensuring below deck is both clean and comfortable for living aboard while cruising. This included adding a robust charging system, and low-draw lights, clean and bright below with easily wiped epoxy faired interior with dark mahogany wood interior trim.

All systems were upgraded/modified to be as fast as possible under PHRF without incurring handicap penalty.

Other upgrades include:

-- LED's
-- Dual-Output Balmar 80 Amp Alternator
-- Group 31's AGM Batteries

Also in 1998-99 refurbishments, the keel and rudder were templated and faired, bottom was re-skinned with triaxial glass laid down with osmotic-resistant vinylester resin and the hull was barrier coated and faired to 1/32" tolerance.

This boat also has a three spreader Forespar rig with stiffeners, larger boom and mainsail, traveller and sheet in cockpit for helm and shorthanded control. All lines led after to cockpit. Carbon spinnaker pole.

She has been single-handed around the Hawaiian islands in the past.

The seller and his family have re-located to the mainland recently and can no longer use the boat regularly.

More photos coming soon as seller is currently off-island. Please give me a call with any questions!

ConditionTo be in perfect condition again, she would need some gear and electronics installed and a fresh cabin, hull, and bottom paint. It is estimated that about 40 hours of work is needed to install the gear. All tools and materials go with boat and are currently in an air-conditioned offsite gear locker, which also contains sails and spares. The boat is empty of gear at the moment and ready to finish installation of equipment. Items are included but not installed are: -- Electronic compass -- VHF (still in box) -- Balmar Alternator -- Traveler -- Two winches -- Port side halyard locks -- Jib tracks Consideration will be given to assist new owner in installing gear with a solid offer. Water heater is installed but not connected to electrical system. 1 Manual and 2 Electric bilge pumps are new but not installed. Traveler is new but not installed. 2 Cockpit winches are not installed pending traveler placement. Harken Jib cars and tracks are new but not installed. Legacy Schaeffer system available. Instruments are working but have been exposed to the sun in the last year and are difficult to read at times. It is recommended that the vessel should be repainted in the near future. Seller will include three unused gallons of Vivid copper-epoxy bottom paint from the manufacturer - 2 Black, 1 White (for foils) - for the next haul out.
