The Catalina 36 Mark II has all the important characteristics that made the original the most popular 36 foot sailboat in the world. The Catalina 36 MK II is built in the same sea kindly moderate displacement hull that tracks surely and performs well in a variety of conditions. The deck is the classic trunk cabin configuration designed by sailors, not stylists, so it is proven, comfortable, and functional. The 36 is the evolution of this successful design and incorporates the refinement that is possible after building over 1,700 36s and listening carefully to the owner’s comments and suggestions
The interior teak has the warmth and durability only obtained with multiple coats of varnish. The interior fabrics have been selected for quality, appearance, and durability. The flooring is teak and holly. All cabinets have louvered doors.
The interior of the 36 MK II has an aft cabin with a large athwartship double berth, hanging lockers, and bureau. The owner’s cabin forward is comfortable, well ventilated and has a private entry into the head. Cruisers love storage space and the 36 MK II is renowned for it. There are ample drawers, lockers and bins for all your cruising provisions and gear. The galley and main cabin have received special detail and design. The galley is a functional “U” shaped, with composite counter tops, sinks are near centerline for proper drainage underway. A large refrigerated ice box is aft and a dry food locker is forward. A gimbaled, stainless steel propane stove with oven is well placed and functional.
The main cabin can be arranged with a dinette or traditional table. The two seats and game table to starboard can be made into a settee or berth with the table and additional cushions. The entertainment center cabinet can be fitted with a stereo and flat screen television.
The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems have been engineered to increase dependability and accessibility. Engine access is excellent, with the one piece insulated enclosure. Aft of the engine a mechanical compartment contains the engine valves and filters making maintenance and service easier.
The structural system and construction of the MK II is proven and straightforward. The hull structure is rugged, hand laminated, solid fiberglass; the keel is lead with integral cast stainless steel bolts. The mast is stepped through the deck on the keel and has inline spreaders and fore and aft shrouds, a sturdy arrangement that is easy to tune.
Access the deck of the MK II through either the port or starboard boarding gates. The wide side decks make maneuvering easy. The cockpit is large with long port and starboard settees with cushions. The aft cockpit has cushioned seating and the helm chair is custom and elevated for excellent visibility. There are also stern rail seats with cushions. There are two large storage lazarettes under the aft seats and one under the port side settee. The helm is nicely arranged with all instruments and engine controls easily reached. Removing the helm seat and the transom becomes walk-thru. All lines can be neatly stored in the forward cockpit mounted mesh line bags.
The cockpit is enclosed with Cadet Grey Sunbrella with Navy blue piping. The custom enclosure features a clear overhead panel for mast visibility, bug screens can be added when needed and there are exterior panels to cover all the eisenglass to prevent weathering and scratches. There is a Navy blue Sunbrella helm cover and matching covers for all deck hatches and winches.
Access into the main cabin is through the companionway with bi-fold black acrylic doors and a sliding hatch. Down a few steps you enter the main cabin. Immediately to port is the “L” shaped galley. The galley is large and offers excellent storage, double stainless steel sinks, Corian countertops with fiddles and a non-skid floor. The sinks face forward and offer the onboard chef easy conversation with salon guests. The engine compartment is under the steps. To starboard is the entry into the aft cabin. A large cabin with teak and holly flooring, ample storage in hanging lockers, drawers and cabinets, padded ultra-leather headboard and a large athwartship berth. Ventilation is excellent thru an overhead hatch and side ports. There is a small white acrylic sliding door that provides access into the galley. An excellent way to get your morning coffee from the onboard chef.
Back to the main cabin and forward of the aft cabin entry is the navigation station with flip up desk for charts or used as an onboard office. The electrical panel is outboard and the navigation table has a stainless steel mounted moving seat that can be tucked away under the desk.
Along the starboard side of the main salon is an “L” shaped ultra-leather settee. Outboard of the settee are two cabinets with louvered doors and a built in bookshelf. The dinette table is stored against the forward bulkhead and can be used as a table or as the base to convert the settee into a double berth. Along the port side are two seats with a game table in between. The table can be used as a base to convert the area into another settee or used to convert the area into a single berth. Outboard are two storage cabinets with louvered doors and a built in bookcase. Further forward and to port is the entertainment center with sliding door to hide or access the TV and several storage drawers.
To starboard and across from the entertainment center is access into the head. The head is large and features a mirrored vanity with storage behind the sliding mirrors, Corian countertops with a molded sink and stainless steel faucet, a manual toilet and ample cabinets for storage. There is a private door into the head from the forward stateroom.
The forward stateroom offers a large “V” berth with a custom innerspring mattress with a filler cushion. Under the berth are storage cabinets and drawers. Outboard are storage shelves with fiddles and along the port side aft is a large hanging locker and additional cabinets for storage. Ventilation is excellent with an overhead hatch and ports. Anchor locker access is all the way forward.
Located on the port side of the main cabin and aft is the “L” shaped galley. The galley features Corian countertops and ample storage. The galley is arranged to make food prep a breeze and the galley will please even the most discriminating chef.

Original owner purchased and sailed on a lake in Texas for many years. This is the nicest Catalina 36 I have been on and she shows beautifully. Care and maintenance has been excellent. This is the one to see.
