Many boaters have had a glimpse of HARMONY at the occasional LRC rendevouz, or perhaps cruising the Bahamas or the east coast. She turns heads where ever she sails and with good reason. HARMONY is a strikingly stunning vessel. Her attributes go much further than her smashing good looks. She is sea kindly, economical, spacious, well designed, well equipped and a well executed sea going trawler. Few in number, these heavily built, sturdy, small ships in the LRC family continue to have a strong following and real gems like HARMONY are extraordinary.

A beautiful teak and holly sole replaces the carpeted salon in Jaunary 2012.  See Photo!  Another example of the loving and continuous care HARMONY has always enjoyed.  HARMONY is not a rare find, she is a matchless find to the credit of her very knowledgeable and discriminating owners.

Harmony's current owner bought her in 1999. She retains her original manuals, brochures, blue prints and even a 1976 Motorboating & Sailing Performance Test article by Dex Hart. Her vintage attributes remain and can easily be seen in the accompanying photographs. Her owner has, however, made meaningful upgrades throughout his years of care and attention. She has obviously enjoyed excellent maintenance her entire life and it shows in her hardware, engine room, interior and the condition of her hull. The excellent maintenance records convey as do the historical documents.

HARMONY has just returned to her berth from a spring haul (March 2011) during which her hull bottom was sanded, thru hull scoops removed and cleaned, running gear taken to bare metal, primed and painted with two coats of Pettit Vivid, zincs replaced and bottom painted with Pettit Trinidad.

In 2005, all the exterior hardware was removed, much of it rechromed and the entire boat was awlgripped. The hull is Super Jet Black, the house and topsides are Oyster White and the non-skid is Moon Dust tan. She is ready to go on her next cruise.

Displacement: 65,500

Total Power: 115
Cruising Speed: 7.8 @ 1800 rpm
Max Speed: 9.7 @ 2500 rpm

Fuel: 1370
Fresh Water: 430

From the bridge deck to the engine room, HARMONY has every space that is important for cruising and living aboard. Her flybridge is shaded as is her sun deck/outdoor dining area. With just a small modification to the table legs, the dining table could be lowered to provide an outdoor bed for the perfect, starlit night or awesome meteor shower viewing.  As it is, this dining area can easily accommodate 8 people.  The bridge has all the electronics necessary to pilot the boat all day from up top. The dinghy is easily accessed and deployed from the bridge deck.

The high bow gives the 48 LRC its distinctive shippy appearance and tames head seas. The sidedecks are generous in proportion and the cockpit is large enough for chairs and a table plus storage.

The pilothouse is the heart of the boat where much time is spent by captain and crew. Visibility is A+, ventilation cannot be improved upon, the port and starboard doors provide immediate accessibility to the exterior of the boat. The settee is generous and and the pilotberth is a huge plus not normally found on vessels of this size. Harmony has four A/C and reverse air heating/cooling units that keep her plenty cool in summer and toasty warm in winter. The salon, master staterooms, V-berth and pilothouse all have dedicated units. Newer styled digital thermostats throughout.

HARMONY has two spacious staterooms and two heads, both bathrooms have separate showers and newer model Lectrasan heads. The carpeted master stateroom with its athwartship queen (and Sleep Number mattress) is quite large with plenty of walking around space plus an immense amount of storage and large head with bath and shower. The V berth (with insert) has a teak and holly sole with floor space and seating, even with the door closed and an ensuite head. Tremendous storage under berths in both staterooms. Both staterooms have custom made linens, reading lamps and master has custom drapes and new grass cloth wall covering that brightens the interior - see photogrpahs.

The galley has many upgrades that make it a joy for meal preparation. The full size refrigerator with generous sized freezer is quite a nice feature for the cook. The salon has a large breakfast bar, comfortable easy chairs, great visibility and is simply a lovely, cozy and entertaining place to spend time.  Made even lovelier in January 2012 with the addition of a new teak and holly sole throughout.  A wonderful advantage of the salon is that it has NO built-in furnishings thereby allowing owners to place comfortable, stand alone furnishings in any configuration they wish.

Stereo speakers are located in the flybridge, master stateroom, V-berth and salon with individual controls in each room and master controls in the salon.

The owner upgraded and updated the kitchen making it much lighter and brighter and added new new appliances. Photographs of the galley show the improved wall covering, new built in toaster oven, new stove top, new refrigerator and new Advantium microwave/convection oven.

On port side near the companionway to the pilothouse is a beautiful side bar area for storage and entertaining. This area encloses the entertainment center. The speaker selection box can play speakers anywhere on the boat. A keen eye will notice that most of the switches and wall plates here and throughout the vessel have been replaced with durable and beautiful stainless steel. Many vent plates have also been upgraded.

Pilothouse and PH Electronics

The Pilothouse is where everyone gravitates. The visibility is superb, the settee is a gathering area and serves as a great location for dining. The pilotberth allows the off watch crew member to stay nearby while sleeping on overnight trips. The tiger mahogany famous on the vintage Hatts is seen in abundance in the pilothouse as it is throughout the boat. It is in EXCELLENT condition and breathtakingly beautiful as seen in the photographs.

Broker's Remarks

Around our office the "Engineer Joke" is that you can always tell an engineer but you can't tell him much! All kidding aside, however, we love to list boats that belong to engineers because they are always in very good condition and they all have had thoughtful and substantial upgrades. HARMONY is no exception. Her engineer owner has lavished care on her and it shows. We helped this owner purchase HARMONY in 1999 and we couldn't be more pleased that he has brought her back to us to sell. He has done so much to this boat that it is impossible to put it all in the specification sheet. However, he has maintenance records, manuals for all new equipment and much if not all of the original Hatteras documents on the boat. Following is only a partial list of improvements that will be significant for a new owner. The current owner will gladly assist new buyers with orientation.

  • New electronics 2005
