This 1995 Rinker 280 Fiesta Vee has a surprising amount of room down below. The cabin is comfortable, but U-shaped sleeping quarters going aft around the stairway provide more space than seems possible when looking at the cabin from above. The current owner was surprised at how well the boat fared in rough seas during a voyage from Connecticut to Cape Cod. The two 1995 Mercruiser 5.0-liter V8 inboard motors had about 721 hours on them as of mid-August 2012. The owner has found that this boat has two efficient speeds. The faster of the two is 3,000 revolutions per minute at about 19 knots (about 22 miles per hour). At that speed the boat consumes about 11 to 11 1/2 gallons per hour total (including both engines), the owner states. The boat also operates efficiently at a much lower speed, about 1,000 to 1,200 RPMs and about 5 to 7 knots. At that slow speed the boat consumes between 3 and 4 gallons per hour total (including both engines), the owner states. Rinker says the maximum speed of the boat is 45 miles per hour, though the owner has not pushed it that fast. It would take a three-blade propeller to send the boat that fast. The owner in August 2012 had a four-blade propeller on the boat, which improves stability but shaves about 5 miles per hour off the possible maximum speed.
