She is a big 27, interior volume compares favorably with boats 3 and 4 feet larger. The console is just a tad forward to balance the boat and open up tremendous cockpit space. The console is well proportioned, providing cavernous space inside for a head, 3 batteries and a chest of drawers, while still being just the right height. Another 27 strength, in terms of practicality and usability, is the transom area. Designing the 27 with less than a full height transom means you don't have to mess with a door. The rear bench seat uses no cockpit space and it is quick and easy to get people, or fish, in and out of the water while still keeping the ocean out. These boats are quite heavy in the bottom and get progressively lighter above the waterline, resulting in a craft of moderate weight for it's size. The bottom laminate is over 1" thick, hand laid, solid glass. This heavy 24 oz. woven roving absorbs impact energy and creates the mass requited to punch through waves. The massive top-hat stringers are made of the same material, then fully glassed into the boat from stem to transom, chine to keel, and filled with foam. The hull sits in the mold at least 7 days, under vacuum, to ensure it's shape. Above the waterline, a gradual shift in the lamination schedule takes place; from heavy woven rove to cross-linked PVC composite core and 17 oz. bi-axial glass. Strength is maintained while weight is reduced, resulting in a stable, well-balanced vessel, with a low center of gravity. At Albury Brothers, the liner is vacuumed to the hull and stringers to create a void-free, fully bonded structure. The deck and console are mechanically and chemically bonded to this structure. They attach the hard or T-top to the console, giving you more room with less to trip over. They also do their best to get rid of latches, hinges, screws, hooks, bungy cords, valves, etc. All of this fluff corrodes, deteriorates, loosens, breaks and requires maintenance. Sheer and freeboard were added, as well as the beam carried forward. At the behest of a boat rental firm, Willard lofted the 23 footer on top of the 20 foot plug in 1997. Willard added a set of lifting strakes, took a little roundness out of the bilge & continued his approach of carrying more beam forward. In 2005, Willard Albury lofted the 27' hull plug, partially using sections from the fabulous 23 hull. Production of the 27 footer began in early 2007. Due to demand, in 2003 the Albury family partnered to produce Albury Brothers Boats in the U.S. with the same Abaco-built quality.
