Vessel Overview: Greg Nestor in "Twenty Affordable Boats To Take You Anywhere" describes the Island Packet 31 as "featuring a sheer, short overhangs, including a stubby bow and a nearly vertical transom, and a considerable beam. The cabin top is parallel to the waterline and carries the lines of the yacht out to the stemhead. The hull is U-shaped and , instead of a fin keel, features a long traditional underbody with a cutaway forefoot. The hull is a solid hand-laid laminate. The deck is also a hand-laid fiberglass laminate (and) cored with 1/2" - 3/4" thick layer of polycore, Island Packet's proprietary mix of resin and microballons. The result is an extremely strong composite that is impervious to water intrusion, rot, and delamination". Vessel Walkthru: The forward cabin has a large V berth with removable filler cushion, hanging locker, several cabinets, shelves and lockers plus its own door to both the head compartment and main salon for privacy and convenience. The large head just aft to starboard features a deluxe vanity with cabinets over and under, linen cabinet, unbreakable teak framed mirror, and a draining fiberglass shower pan. Pressure water and shower with seat and curtain add to comfort. The spacious main salon will comfortably seat a group for dining or with the table folded against the bulkhead rack, offers a social area with large facing settees and wide cabin sole a pullout berth is built into the L-shaped settee for extra guest accommodations. A hanging locker is provided forward, and the settee berths have cabinets and bookshelves outboard,  with additional storage under and behind the cushions. With a flip of the chart table and a pull on the folding pocket door, the unique quarter berth/ nav station area becomes an enclosed quarter cabin offering the advantages of an open interior by day and a private cabin by night A cabinet adjacent to the chart table houses the master electrical panel and nav/electronic equipment. The U-shaped galley aft to port features an 11-cubic foot, heavily insulated ice box, 2 burner gimballed propane stove/oven, deep double s/s sinks, dish rack with cutlery drawers, dry storage bin and numerous cabinets. Details such as a stove guard rail with harness attachments and tilt-out trash receptacle combine to make onboard cooking safe and practical. Oiled teak bulkheads, trim, and a teak and holly sole impart a feeling of luxury and warmth below. Natural light and ventilation are provided by three overhead hatches, nine opening ports and louvered interior doors.
