General Details

Outbound 46 was designed by the late Carl Schumacher, whose other successful designs include the Alerion Express 28 and 38, Oyster’s Lightwave 48, the Express 27 and 37, and many west coast custom racing yachts. This design successfully combines the moderate displacement required for cruising comfort, upwind performance, excellent control, and the speed, strength and seaworthiness to beat rough weather. In a feature article in Blue Water Sailing, author Quentin Warren summed up his sail on an Outbound 44; “Bulletproof cruising, semi-custom detailing and sophisticated blue-water performance describe this powerful Schumacher design.” “Passion” was built for very knowledgeable owners, who have many bluewater miles behind them. She is a superior yacht that is truly a sail-away vessel for the serious off-shore cruiser. “Passion” has been very lightly cruised since new – her owners enjoying coastal cruising in Sothern New England. She is in excellent condition and can easily be shown as a boatshow “showboat”.

Additional Equipment

Accommodations & Layout:

The Outbound’s unique semi-raised salon creates a bright and airy atmosphere and avoids the “dark cave” feeling of many sailboats and allows for good communication among crew in cockpit, galley and salon by virtue of a short three-step companionway ladder. The large portlights provide plenty of natural light. With its generous 6’4” headroom, Passion’s cabin affords efficiently laid-out living space unusual for performance cruisers under fifty feet.
