General Details

If you think Nitro builds only fishing boats, you're missing one water ski: Yes, the company is famous for bass boats, but they also build multi-tasking models like the cool Nitro 288 Sport. Styled like a runabout, with comfortable seating behind a full-width windshield, the 20'2" 288 Sport can tow a skier or wakeboarder as handily as boat a trophy bass.

KEY FEATURES:
- Rapid Planing System transom
- Swim ladder
- Removable ski tow pylon
- Enclosed port & starboard side storage lockers with organizers for rods
- In-floor rod/board storage with organizers for rods
- AM/FM/CD stereo
- Port carpeted locker with drain & lid assist
- 24V, 70-lb. thrust foot-controlled trolling motor
- Custom-matched tandem trailer with Galvashield corrosion protection, swing-away tongue & EZ lube hubs

VERSATILE:
Man, or woman, does not live by fishing alone. While hard-core anglers are happy with single-purpose bass boats, most people have a wide range of interests, and it gets even wider when the family is involved. So why buy a boat that does only one thing well? The folks at Nitro, builders of some very nice bass boats, understand: Their 288 Sport converts easily from runabout to skiboat to fishing boat.

Nitro Boats sets up the 288 Sport with plenty of gear for all her functions. For fishing, she has raised casting decks fore and aft; port and starboard rod lockers; a livewell aft and a baitwell forward. A Lowrance chartplotter is mounted for easy viewing.

As a runabout, or when racing from one fishing hole to another, Nitro's Rapid Planing System hull will coax maximum performance out of whatever power you choose for your 288 Sport. The company says the Rapid Planing System, which incorporates a step at the transom, makes their boats quicker out of the hole, with little bow rise, better handling and faster with less horsepower than conventional hulls. All this will also appeal to skiers, boarders and tubers, who will tow from a removable tournament-style ski pylon.

When it's time to kick back, the 288 Sport's forward casting platform converts to lounge seating by stowing the filler piece and laying down the cushions. The backrests are attached to the consoles.

NITRO 288 SPORT
Hydraulic tilt steering is standard, along with a flush-mounted compass. Nitro installs multi-function gauges - including water pressure and trim - and a Lowrance fishfinder. The burlwood trim is also standard.

A MotorGuide Pro trolling motor is standard, with two Interstate trolling batteries.

There's under-gunwale rod stowage port and starboard; if you don't ski or board, you can carry more rods in the long ski locker under the cockpit sole.

HOW IS SHE BUILT
The 288 Sport has a hand-laid fiberglass hull backed up with a foam-filled 'glass stringer system and composite transom. The cockpit sole is molded fiberglass with non-skid, with marine-grade carpet on the casting platforms. She is backed by Nitro's transferable 10-year limited warranty on the hull, interior stringers and transom.

HORSEPOWER
Standard power for the 288 Sport is a 150-hp Mercury 150 XS6 ProMax two-stroke outboard. The company estimates top speed with this engine in the low-40-50 mph range, but we cannot confirm that.

NITRO HISTORY
Nitro performance bass boats can trace their roots back to 1978 when founder Johnny Morris introduced the first Bass Tracker, a complete fishing package sold for a nationally advertised price. Today, the Tracker Marine Group is one of the world's most popular boat builders. Bass boats, runabouts, houseboats, and pontoon boats, fiberglass or aluminum, salt or fresh water, if you're looking for a boat under 35 feet, chances are that there's a boat in this family to fit your needs.

Life on the water can be really tough.

Specifications

Condition
This boat is in excellent condition and won't stay on the market long. The boat was just serviced and detailed. Records of the most recent servicing are available, but I can tell you a new impeller was installed and a brand new cranking battery was also installed. The boat was also water tested by a local, reputable marina and everything checked out. The last service charge paid by the owner was nearly $400. The trailer is equally impressive and is in very good shape. The trailer has a folding tongue so that boat will more easily fit into your garage. There are safety chains for the trailer, but there is also 2 retractable safety cables. You will feel safe pulling this boat with your vehicle.
