General Details

'MUST SEE' is a phrase we all hear all too often. In many cases it simply doesn't apply. With 'Solaia', it does.

When yacht architect George Stadel III designed the Vagabond Westwind 38', he had a very clear concept of the requirements of a cruising boat this size and the experience of an actual cruiser which was invaluable in setting the initial parameters and then in bringing together the final design.

From a designers viewpoint, maybe one of the most exciting challenges in designing a cruising sailboat is in developing each of its features and characteristics to a maximum potential and then blending them together into a single, functional craft without sacrificing any of that potential. This is 'Solaia'.

SOLAIA: The interior of this yacht is finished to the highest standard in solid teak. The cabin is comfortable and roomy and the cabin soles are solid teak and holly. The head with shower has a Mosaic tiled floor. Doors are solid teak and fit perfectly. Fixed windows are tinted safety glass with teak trim.

There is excellent ventilation with five Bowmar Ocean deck hatches and seven stainless opening ports with screens and six fixed ports. All ports and windows have shades. The overhead is paneled and easily removable for maintenance. The vessel is set up for offshore use with plenty of solid handholds and fiddles in the galley. All lockers have solid teak louvered doors and the hanging lockers all have automatic lights and are teak lined. The whole vessel has excellent natural light with well-located deck prisms. She is completely dry; no mildew, no mold, no smells, no leaks.

Forward there is a self-draining anchor locker. Aft of this is the master cabin, finished with real teak. This area features a large berth that can be extended out to comfortably sleep 2 large adults. Bedding is furnished with Tempur-pedic for very comfortable sleeping (new 2011). Under the berth are two large storage areas, with 2 lockers at the foot of the bed and 1 large locker above and to port with a mirrored door and with 2 shelves. There is also a hanging locker (lighted and lined with teak). There are 3 drawers and an open bookshelf both located to port. Equipped with various reading lights and a fan. You can also have private access to the head if desired. (It can also be accessed from the main salon as well).

Aft is the main salon. this is a very large comfortable roomy area. On the port side is a bench sofa, which opens to a large sea berth. The navigation table is at the end of this sofa facing aft. On the starboard side is a beautiful teak oval table with storage under. The salon has ample cupboard and shelf space (including a built wine rack for bottle storage). There is also a flat screen TV, DVD, and stereo, ample lighting, and fans.

The port side galley features a three burner stove with oven and broiler, over sized fridge, double sinks with both pressure and manual faucets, and plenty of storage for dry goods, dishes, and cookware with both lockers and drawers. Drawers include utensil drawer and a pull out cutting board.

To starboard is the guest cabin, which has a large (8 foot long) berth, a hidden vanity sink, hanging locker (fully lighted and lined), 2 shelf cupboard with mirrored door. This is a very comfortable spacious lighted cabin.

The cockpit is very comfortable and safe for offshore use, with custom cushions, barbecue, and stainless binnacle, with autopilot and navigation equipment. The chart plotter/radar display can be moved from the Nav station below to the cockpit for passage use.

The deck is very clean and easy to work with plenty of teak handholds (new 2011), 4 stainless dorade vents, and a 4 person Avon life raft.

The electrical and plumbing installation on this boat is to a very high standard. All wires are labeled and immaculately run from the main AC/DC panel, with a sub panel for the nav/cockpit area. All plumbing is well installed piping with heavy duty pumps, etc.

In 2007 the whole of the bottom was stripped and gel coat removed, the hull was dried out and refinished with 2 coats of Interlux eglass, then 830 fairing compound, 4 coats 2000e epoxy barrier then 2 coats Interlux anti-fouling, this was professionally done with no expense spared.

Another popular Whaler advertising campaign for the last four decades now. - I doubt anyone would call in the local volunteer fire company to see how much water their boat can hold, but Boston Whaler's version of unsinkable is certainly reassuring offshore and equally comforting when the boat is unattended at the dock. - The vast majority of small boat sinking's occur in the slip when bilge pumps fail or batteries wear down, something that just cannot happen on a Boston Whaler! - Lazarette /garage - Stored Inside - Thru-hull Fittings - Gel Coat (Engine Compartment) - Wakeboard Tower - Control Type (Mercury) - Bottom Paint (None) - Gel Coat - Anchor (Danforth) - Propeller (Stainless Dual Counter Rotating) - Anchor (Included) - Tower - Gel Coat - Propeller (DUO-PROP) - Radar Arch - Bottom Paint - Radar Mast - Anchor - Helm Console - Tee Top - Thru-hull Fittings - Gel Coat (Yes) - Flybridge - Bottom Paint - Bottom Paint (2 Yrs Ago) - Flybridge - Thru-hull Fittings - Gel Coat - Thru-hull Fittings - Bottom Paint - Bow Scuff Plate - Cockpit Type (Open) - Gel Coat - Radar Arch - Bottom Paint (Yes, New Paint To Be Applied In Next Month) - Gel Coat (Yes) - Helm Console (Yes) - Thru-hull Fittings (Yes) - Flybridge - Bottom Paint - Bottom Paint - Gel Coat - Helm Console - Radar Mast - Thru-hull Fittings - Hard Top - Bottom Paint - Hard Top (ALASKAN PACKAGE) - Helm Console - Bottom Paint (Will Need To Be Redone Soon) - Gel Coat (Good Needs Waxing) - Anchor - Gel Coat (Very Good) - Tower - Thru-hull Fittings - Anchor - Radar Arch - Anchor - Radar Arch - Anchor - Custom Exhaust - Bottom Paint (Unknown) - Bottom Paint (New May 2013) - Gel Coat (Very Good) - Bottom Paint - Custom Exhaust - Keel Type (Fixed Bulbous Fin) - Gel Coat (Pearl) - Propeller (Stainless Steel) - Gel Coat - Anchor - Cockpit Type (Aft) - Control Type (Pedestal) - Keel Type (Fin, Cast Lead) - Anchor - Radar Arch (Gimbaled - On Backstay) - Radar Mast (Gimbaled) - Stern Pulpit - Bottom Paint
