General Details

With close to 100k invested in upgrades this Bayliner sticks way out from the pack. If you are in the market for a special motor yacht, this could be the boat. The owner had the transom professionally extended four feet. The additional water line makes the boat ride more smoothly and more level than the original. According to the owner the ride is exceptionally better than before. With twin Hino diesels turning large props in tunnels, the boat gets very good gas milage at a cruising speed of 14 knts.

In addition to the transom extension the owner has added 24 volt bow and stern thrusters, diesel three cabin heating, regulated water heating for the showers, high capacity charger/inverters , new high capacity alternators, Kobelt Controlers, Full Raymarine electronics with twin c120 monitors, remote control, intercoms, new cushions and covers throughout the cabins, new vinyl covers on the flybridge, new seating on the flybridge, additional storage throughout the boat, new carpets, a 10 ft Bullfrog dinghy with 15 hp yamaha, and new vinyl hoses throughout.

The 3'-10" Hull Extension makes the boat 46' long.
* Increased stability, extending the prop pockets and hard chines make for a super stable boat. It's more stable than the 4587 and 4588 models because of their rounded chines and straight hull. The prop pockets push the flotation out to the sides of the boat and reduce roll considerably. Also reduces the chance for prop strike.
*Smoother, flatter ride. The bow is lower while under way and the swim step is well out of the water eliminating the need for trim tabs.
* Increased fuel economy. The longer more efficient hull makes for more knots for the same rpm. About 3 gal per hour at 9 knots! Also no more wave slapping all night under the transom. The boats rides comfortably at anchor.
* Increased storage. With 2 hatches it has 10 full sized batteries in the new hull for ballast and extended battery usage with lots of room left over for more storage. Added 2' swim step and 4' roof.
* With a lower center of gravity and superior hull design the boat is a lot more stable than the pilothouse models. North Harbor Diesel in Anacortes has a robust business adding under hull chines on the rounded hulls of Bayliners and other boats. These hull fixes run for 30K or more each. My marina neighbor told me that his 4588 Bayliner pilothouse was so scary in crossing waves because of the rounded bottom that he sold it and bought a trawler.
* The 3'-10" hull extension was made by North Harbor Diesel in Anacortes and installed by CSR Marine in Seattle, both professional boat builders. The original transom and rudders are in intact which makes for a watertight 3'x14' vented compartment for batteries and lots of storage with a bilge pump (no leeks).
* Prop Pockets increase fuel economy, increase stability, decrease draft, and provide a lower more efficient prop angle. Concerns that it is harder to maneuver in tight spots are mitigated by the addition of bow and stern thrusters. The owner has not found this to be a problem. In fact most of the time he only uses the thrusters to keep his skills up.
* The owner reports cruising in 4' seas in the straights of Juan De Fuca and stayed up top with no problem, unlike rounded hull fly bridge cruisers, which can pitch the driver overboard.
* The 45' 4587 Bayliner with the cockpit in the back is similar to the 43' 4387 (which this one started from) but everything is a little shorter inside because the cockpit takes more than 2' of the boat. This boat is larger inside and with the extra large 55" swim platform makes it easer to board and to get in and out of the dingy. The 4587 does not have prop pockets. The dingy sits off the swim platform making the entire platform usable.
