General Details

The Giles 38 built by David Mallet of London is unashamedly a powerful, heavy displacement, long keeled cruising yacht. She is very much in the style of the Vertue, with many of her distinctive characteristics.

Her accommodation is spacious with the
normal V-berth forward cabin, this is followed by the toilet compartment and behind this the saloon. The saloon has a large dining area which could accommodate eight or more people at the table, and still have room for a traditional pilot berth. Aft of
the salon was the galley to port and opposite this here is a good chart table, quarter berth and wet locker. The cockpit is large and deep with cavemous lockers beneath the seats, which were designed
so that crew could sleep in the cockpit on balmy nights. A great deal of stowage space was made available as well as copious fuel and water tankage considering the number ofpeople she was intended to carry, the sign of a well thought out interior for a serious cruiser.

The coachroof had been kept narrow thus
giving a greater width of side deck, this coupled with the shallow bulwark gave a tremendous feeling of safety when moving about the decks. Underway she is remarkably well balanced with a solid feel to
her motion and is considered an ideal family
cruising boat. Yachting World described her in 1972 as 'A comfortable fast cruising yacht and one of the best I have ever seen.'

She includes digital charts of Chesapeake & Delware Bays, Nova Scotia, yutacan to Venuezula

2 mainsails, 3 headsails, 1 storm jib all good condition

Windvane (Monitor) which works with the tiller, the auto pilot works with the steering wheel

Stainless steel guards for Aunt Clodagh prop to repel lobster pots ( never used, came with boat )

Hand-made teak box to store all kinds of emergency odds-and-ends

From her current owner: I am 81 years old and have sailed many oceans of the world and owned many sailboats over the years. The Laurent Giles has been one of my favorites for its ability to sail beautifully. Unfortunately I am getting to old for blue water sailing single handled and would love to turn the experience over to someone else. This vessel has all equipment needed for blue water sailing or any sailing that one would desire. Imagine motoring out with your almost new 50hp Yanmar deisel (that was installed just a couple years ago brand new) chugging away beautifully, clearing the inlet you hoist the sails on to destinations unknown. I can tell you personally it is an awe inspiring feeling like no other. ***PRICE IS FIRM***
