General Details

As wThe original Wellcraft 2600 Martinique (an updated 2600 Martinique
was introduced in 2002) began life back in 1994 as the
Excel 26 SE. In 1997 she became the Wellcraft 26 SE; in 1998 she
was called the 260 SE, and in 1999 she picked up the 2600 Martinique
nameplate--a lot of confusing marketing hype. Whatever the
name, she's been tough competition for other boats her size thanks
to a very low price. There are few options--the equipment list is
pretty much the same on every boat--and the result is a super inexpensive
trailerable package. Hull construction is solid fiberglass,
and at just 5,000 pounds the 2600 is a relatively light boat for her
size. The basic midcabin floorplan is arranged with double berths
fore and aft, a compact galley, and an enclosed, standup head with
vanity and shower. Outside, the cockpit will seat up to eight and the
bench seat opposite the helm converts into a sun lounge. Lacking
side decks, a walk-through windshield provides access to the bow.
Note that opening ports replaced the original cabin windows in
1998. A single 250hp sterndrive engine will cruise at 25 knots (low
30s top)--not bad for a single-engine 26-footer.
