General Details
This passenger vessel is full of Old-Florida history. The Wofford is a 1940's custom
wooden tour boat, built in Ft. Lauderdale (along with an identical sister ship, which
was reportedly lost in a fire). Initially, the Wofford served as a water taxi, taking
guest to and from the Wofford Hotel in Miami Beach and the mainland, transporting
numerous famous people, presidents and mop gangsters (i.e. Al Capone, Anthony
Carfano and Frank Costello) who resided and operated both illegal gambling
operations and legitimate hotels, including Miami's Wofford Hotel.
Later, the Wofford served for many years in the waters of southern Florida and
the Everglades, as the Jungle Cruise until she was taken to New York City where
she worked as a tour boat on the Erie Canal and the Hudson River.
In September 2011, the Wofford made the trip south and is now in Crystal River,
Florida where she is in need of some TLC to complete her next chapter.
