General Details

The Talou is a 54' Samson sailing ketch with traditional rigging. She is also classified as a "C" class Tall Ship and was built in 1976 for off-shore cruising. The boat features a comfortable, roomy cockpit and a large fore and aft deck area for sunbathing. Below decks, the boat has a rich mahogany interior, full galley, two heads with shower and a stereo. The Talou was built for world cruising ( 2 family layout) and has made 2 cir-cum navigations. She is now for sale to a new couple who would carry on the tradition. She does need some tender care and maintenance. This is the Ideal live aboard. its bigger than some apartments, Its a inexpensive waterfront condo.! Thank you for visiting our listing for sale! - Stock #09760 To get the Talou ready for off shore cruising I would recommend a number of improvements as follows: The engine is locked up and will need serviced! The main mast needs to be taken down and sanded and varnished. This entails getting the mast lifted off and spending a day sanding and then putting several coats of Cetol on the wood. The mizzen was done 2 years ago and looks good. The other masts and booms are also good. The rigging is all stainless and is in good condition and over- engineered for off-shore sailing. The sails are fine for local sailing but would need a new Genoa and maybe several new sails to add to the compliment. The bottom paint will have to be done during a haul out (6 to 700 $) The bottom is full keel as seen on the website and an be put on a tide grid for cleaning & painting Engine will need to be serviced and a new 24 volt generator is needed There are batteries in use on the boat but I would suggest 4 new High power batteries. 24 volt system. There is a Dickinson Pacific diesel stove and we had the carburetor rebuilt but we suggest that this be replaced with a newer stove We started to sand the sides and they would have to be finished and painted, during a haul out, for that fresh new look. 4 ceiling lights need to be replaced 3 port hole fasteners need to be replaced on superstructure Most safety gear is out of date After purchasing the Talou the buyer should be prepared to spend around 10,000.00 To bring the Talou sail ready for cruising. The decks are cement except the for the super structure. All are covered with Ducan rubber based paint. There are no leaks on the boat. The 2 heads are new and functioning well. The shower is available in the forward head. The V berth is now a work shop and has a vice and tools, and parts and material storage. It used to sleep 2 people and could be easily converted back. There are 2 staterooms with double bunks. Lots of headroom- 6'6'' or more everywhere. The interior is all finished in mahogany with the ceiling are accented with maple Large storage areas everywhere (in fact when we purchased the Talou we were told there was a case of Scotch stored. We never did find it! Stock ID: 09760
