General Details

For Sale: 42 ft 1986 Chriscraft Commander Sportsman 42-2 Convertible Flybridge  double stateroom cruiser located in Old Saybrook CT. Power is twin Covington Detroit 6-71 TI diesels with less than 1300 hours, and an 8KW Onan diesel generator with only 1520 hours.

Chriscraft in the 1970’s and 1980’s was the leader in luxury sport fishing yachts for the offshore and near shore fisheries. Chriscaft built strong rugged yachts capable of cruising the Gulfstream on a regular basis. Into these battlewagons, Chriscraft fitted, then, state of the art, interiors that are open and airy, easy living space with fine appointments. This is a fine, good looking, traditional vessel with a comfortable and attractive cruising arrangement mounted on a classic sport fishing, able, hull, with proper power and amenities.

This Chriscraft 42-2 convertible is a serious 14 ft beam offshore Flybridge Fisherman without the towers and outriggers, perfect as a big water capable family cruiser. You do not have to fish to love this boat. The flybridge is well laid out as a proper conning area with excellent sightlines. Roomy enough for the helmsmen and guests, the entire bridge is enclosed a year ago with new EZ2CY. The traditional flush foredeck goes on for acres, plenty of real estate for the life raft, a deck chocked tender if you like, and of course the favorite haunt for the sun worshipers. Aft, the large cockpit has plenty of space for as many deck chairs as you need in addition to tackle centers and deck boxes. The tuna door gives easy access to the water.

Below there is the deck level saloon with various seating areas including a hi/lo table and breakfast bar around the down level galley. Nicely finished with teak and large windows, the carpeted saloon is a comfortable living area for any size group. The Galley down configuration permits a dedicated galley space with counters and work areas for serious food magic. Moving forward, the head with electric toilet, sink, and separate shower stall is to port while the guest cabin with upper and lower sofa berths and locker and cabinet storage is to starboard. The owner’s cabin is all the way forward with its own door to the head. The owner’s cabin has an island berth, hanging lockers, cabinet storage, and a sink with running hot and cold water. Three separate air conditioning until will keep all spaces cool in the summer and toasty in the winter.

This is a nicely maintained spacious yacht in full running trim with plenty of room and comfort to live aboard for a summer’s cruise up the islands. The present owner has done a good job of updating as necessary and maintaining her is proper fashion. There is nothing scary about this boat. Keep her as a family cruiser or fit her out for the tuna grounds, here is a boat that can do it all.
