General Details

“ PAIR A DICE”  was built in 1991 by the owner of CLASSIC MARINE & CLASSIC CRAFT BOATS Inc. to be shown and demonstrated at Classic Boat shows in California.  The split cockpit configuration with mid-engine inboard under the beautiful Mahogany Deck was a favorite style of Gentlemen in the 1950s. It was aptly called the ‘Racing Runabout’ made famous by Chris Craft of that time.

This boat has a hand laid Fiberglass Hull in brilliant white and genuine Mahogany decking, cold molded to minimize maintenance and keep its Bristol look for many years because the deck planks are constructed without need of caulking  like the Antique Classics. The bottom is painted with a hard anti-fouling paint and bright white stripes set off the clear deck finish showing the American Mahogany stain.

The MerCruiser-GM 5.7L 350ci V-8 Engine rides on full length bottom Stringers completely encapsulated the full length of the 20’ hull. The hull design is not a replica of an older hull design but an original design by Dana Phillips to be more efficient and dry running than the older wooden hulls were, faster too.  You can see the efficiency of the hull ‘in flight’ by looking at the photo of that boat coming toward the camera; minimum spray and efficient attitude that minimizes friction from the water.  The same hull design ‘works’ with any configuration and has been built and sold as forward engine Race boats, and V-Drive models as well as this mid-engine runabout model.

The interior is highest quality Marine Vinyl upholstery and Mahogany ceiling boards and Custom Dash Board and classic instruments cluster. The floors are Teak and Holly Cabin sole that gives a rich custom feel to the boat.  The rear seat has removable hatch covers to present an all Mahogany deck when out for a ride without full passenger load.  The engine hatch is rigged with a remote hatch lift actuator to make it easy to show off the nicely finished, very clean engine room.  Included is a mooring cover with some years left in it and a Mahogany Flag pole/navigation light for day or night running. The hardware is all stainless or chrome plated bronze and fitting for the style and character of this beautiful Runabout. The custom removable Swim platform gives the boat good utility for water sports allowing for easy re-entry to the boat. “Pair A Dice” rides on a tandem axle trailer that was custom built for this boat’s hull design.
