General Details

Sun Drum started life as a typical 47' Marine Trader. And then she met her current owners and marine consultant, Steve D'Antonio. Since her refit completion in 2010, she is anything but a typical 47' Marine Trader! Her sellers spent over $800,000 on a complete refit of Sun Drum, under Steve D'Antonio's professional supervision, to make her the incredible vessel she is now. Her transformation is over the top in detail and expense, so you really must see her in person to truly appreciate the investment her sellers made in her and the stunning condition she is in. Sun Drum is the beginning of a new fleet of older boats that have been lovingly restored by their owners with Steve D'Antonio's professional guidance that will offer smart buyers better than new options when buying a boat. Sun Drum is offered turn-key, in stunning condition at a fraction of her total refit cost because her sellers are ready to move to their next project. This truly is a unique opportunity, so visit Sun Drum for a personal inspection rather than just reading about her!

By the way, look for an article by Steve D'Antonio in the October issue of PassageMaker Magazine describing the details and lessons learned during this multi-year refit of Sun Drum.

47' Marine Trader/D'Antonio Vessel Walkthrough
Stepping aboard the vessel on the starboard side deck, there is a salon access door or you can walk aft through the side deck access door to the air-conditioned, enclosed sundeck. Once in the sundeck, you can step up into the flybridge or down into the salon. Once in the salon, you will find custom cabinetry with a 46" Samsung flat screen TV on a lift to starboard, built-in L-shaped sofa to port, steps to the master stateroom and multi-function room aft, the galley port forward, the lower helm starboard forward and forward steps to the guest stateroom, battery/electrical room and utility room. All windows were replaced and all portlights were removed and rebedded. All interior teak veneer has been replaced with all grain aligned and all solid teak has been refinished. All overhead and side panels have been redone in Ultra-Leather. Lighting throughout the boat is new. A majority of the electrical system has also been replaced. All living spaces, including the flybridge and sundeck are now air conditioned.
47' Marine Trader/D'Antonio Accommodations
Sun Drum offers a full beam master stateroom aft with ensuite head and a guest stateroom forward with ensuite head. Both staterooms and heads were completely renovated, with an enclosed shower added in the guest stateroom. The third stateroom was converted into a multi-purpose room, but this room is arranged so that it can easily be converted back or accommodate a single berth with everything else still in place. This room's present configuration houses the washer and dryer in a cabinet, offers a sink and vanity and offers a work desk and storage area.
47' Marine Trader/D'Antonio Salon
The large, open salon offers new sliding side windows with Hunter-Douglas Silhoutte blinds, new opening windshield windows, stairs to the sundeck starboard aft and a starboard side deck access door. The lower helm is starboard forward and the new galley is port forward. There is a custom made, built-in L-shaped sofa with storage underneath port aft and custom cabinetry to starboard housing a Samsung 46" flat screen TV on a lift, custom cabinetry aft and a custom designed and lighted art display cabinet aft.
47' Marine Trader/D'Antonio Galley
The galley has been completely rebuilt, so it is now on the same level as the salon instead of the usual down galley design of the 47' Marine Trader. There is an enclosed and dedicated battery/electrical room under the galley now. The previous dinette across from the galley has been enclosed as a utility room, which also now provides storage drawers above for the galley. There is also a wetbar/mini galley on the sundeck that also has lighted glass and liquor storage. This dual galley arrangement allows much easier prep and delivery to the sundeck and flybridge.   - Double stainless steel sink - Wolf 2-burner induction cooktop - Vintrifigo under-counter refrigerator and freezer - Avonite Kokoura solid surface countertop - Spice rack - Storage drawers - Marvel wine cooler in the salon   Sundeck wetbar/mini galley: - Built-in blender/food processor - Vitrifrigo under-counter refrigerator and freezer - Vtrifrigo ice maker - Viking convection/microwave oven - Stainless steel sink

47' Marine Trader/D'Antonio Lower Helm
Sun Drum offers a lower helm starboard forward in the salon. There is a full complement of electronics listed in the electronics section of this brochure and there is a starboard side deck access door next to the lower helm. The seller upgraded to Imtra windshiled wipers and washer system for better visibility at the lower helm during inclement weather. The Raymarine camera system tied into the Furuno Navnet MFD's allows engine room monitoring and better visibility aft from the lower helm.
47' Marine Trader/D'Antonio Master Stateroom
For privacy and added amenities, the aft area of the boat has been converted from a two stateroom configuration to a single master suite that can be converted back to two staterooms, if desired. The full beam aft master stateroom offers a walk-around centerline queen size berth, transom hatch and four portlights for plenty of natural light and ventilation, an amazing four hanging lockers, storage drawers and cabinets included in the new, beautiful custom cabinetry, carpet over teak parquet sole and ensuite head. Notice in the photos that the new teak cabinetry veneer grain is perfectly aligned. Look closely throughout the boat for such signs of detailed craftsmanship. There is a wall-mounted TV that has its own DirecTV receiver, ceiling speakers and there is a Fusion Radio/DVD player. The ensuite master head includes a tiled shower/tub, a vanity and a Tecma toilet. The additional stateroom now fulfills a number of functions that the owners wanted in their master suite. It has its own vanity and sink so that the owners have their individual vanity areas, a Bosch washer and dryer hidden in a cabinet, a large Avonite Kokoura solid surface countertop, which the sellers now use as a desk and art surface. There is ample storage under the countertop. The countertop surface can be converted back into a single berth for permanent or temporary conversion of this room into a third stateroom with its own vanity.
47' Marine Trader/D'Antonio Guest Stateroom
The guest stateroom forward has been rebuilt and enlarged to offer one enlarged berth running athwartships and the other enlarged berth fore and aft, which makes it easier to access both berths. The refit of this area also created an enclosed shower in the guest head, which is unique on this size boat. There is also a new Bomar overhead deck hatch and portlight, new storage cabinet and drawers, reading lights, carpet over teak parquet sole and a half-length mirror.

In conjunction with the main galley, this arrangement makes it much easier for prep and delivery to the sundeck and flybridge, which are such popular living areas aboard Sun Dream.

Steve D'Antonio Marine Consulting Services
The multi-year refits of Sun Drum were all surpervised and guided by Steve D'Antonio Marine Consulting. With nearly 25 years of experience as a marine mechanic, electrician, consultant and boatyard manager, Steve D'Antonio ranks as one of the most knowledgeable boating experts in the country. He has operated Virginia-based Steve D'Antonio Marine Consulting since 2007, advising boat buyers, owners and industry professionals. D'Antonio is also the technical editor of PassageMaker magazine. Prior to establishing his business, he managed Zimmerman Marine in Cardinal, Va., for 11 years. So, technically, Sun Drum is a very unique vessel that has been upgraded to a higher level than most new yachts and she certainly has little resemblance to her original Marine Trader construction. Cosmetically, her sellers have invested a considerable amount and they have maintained her in immaculate condition. Sun Drum's transformation is so impressive that she will be on display in Trawler Fest Fort Lauderdale. But why wait? Sun Drum is available for a personal inspection anytime.
