General Details

Think outside the box. This 1996 17 ft Helton Solo II is a different sort of pocket cruiser day sailor. Modern concepts applied to a cat boat, rotating reefing / furling mainsail with a pylon mounted boom. No stays, no shrouds, no halyard, on a fiberglass 17 hull with a large cockpit and a two berth cuddy cabin, ballasted with a 400 lbs winged keel, this is not your traditional cat boat. Gudgeon mounted rudder with bright tiller, here is a simply rigged trailer day sailor that is graceful traditional fiberglass hull with an ultra modern rig.

The Mainsail is sleeved over the 31 ft carbon fiber mast. The mast is stepped in a socket trough the deck. This mast rotates like a roller furling gear to reef or furl the loose footed mainsail. A pylon mounted boom is mounted on the deck aft of the mast and extend and trims the mainsail with an out haul. Nothing hard about this, no winches, no turning blocks. This is a wonderful easy sailing boat, a light air witch, perfect for a beginner or a sailing couple. Easily single handed, this 17 ft catboat with ballasted winged keel is more capable than your tradition small yacht.

The cockpit is large enough to stretch out in, cushioned in navy blue with red piping. The cuddy cabin has two Breton red cushioned berths and a portable head. That is it, simple, clean, tidy and comfortable.

Power is provided with a 5 hp four stroke outboard. A solar charger keeps the single battery charged for running and cabin lights.

Take a look, this Helton Solo II 17 ft catboat may just be just what you are looking for in an easily sailed day sailor. Think outside the box.
