In late summer, Hinckley took the wraps off its Sport Boat 40c, the first of two outboard-powered boats in a new Sport Boat range. An enclosed, express version — the 40x — is scheduled to launch later this year.
Hinckley says the Sport Boats are the world’s first carbon-epoxy performance boats available in production models.
“For nearly 25 years, we have been vacuum-infusing resin into layers of carbon fiber and Kevlar spanning the full length of our yachts,” says Pete Saladino, chief marketing officer at Hinckley. “We are now bringing our design refinement and unparalleled level of boatbuilding expertise to performance boats.”
A rack of triple 300-hp Mercury Verado 4-strokes are standard power. The Sport Boat 40c will blast to a top end of 43.4 knots and cruise efficiently at 26.1 knots, according to Hinckley. Optional
(triple) 350-hp Verados add 3 knots to the top end, and optional (dual) 667-hp Seven Marines boost that top end with an additional 10 knots.
Below the center console, through a companionway, is a cabin for overnighting. To port is a galley with a sink, microwave, pull-out refrigerator/freezer and stowage. Just forward is a U-shaped settee, which has a seat back that flips down to reveal a queen-size centerline berth. A head with enclosed shower is also belowdecks.
On deck, friends and family can gather for happy hour libations or lunch at a bow lounge set around a teak table. A starboard side deck leads aft to the helm and cockpit. The helm has a three-person upholstered bench and a full-length, wood-trimmed footrest molded into the console. Abaft the bench is an al fresco galley unit. There’s additional seating in the cockpi on a three-person transom bench. Wood trim gives the Sport Boat the distinctive look of a Hinckley.
