Delivered in the spring of 2012, the current owners took delivery in the UK and sailed it back to the western hemisphere via the ARC, where they placed second in class. Professionally maintained and ready for new owners and new adventures.
HULL, DECK AND SWING KEEL
The Southerly 42RST is supplied with CE certification is built to EU specifications and conforms to RCD, design category A.
HULL:
Heavy duty composite molding, incorporating an anti-print through and moisture barrier, multi-axial, and unidirectional reinforcements with vinylester laminating resin and isophthalic gelcoat. The keel box is an integral part of the hull lay-up and sandwich construction stiffening runs the entire length of the hull topsides. All main bulkheads are bonded into the hull at main lay-up stage along with a stiffening grillage of transverse frames and longitudinal stringers. The engine bearers are an integral part of the hull structure.

- Bottom paint (NOV 2022) Sea Hawk Bio-cop
- Swim platform with storage, Weaver Snap Davits for dinghy
- Bow thruster (motor rebuilt 2019)
DECK:
Hand laid composite sandwich construction, with carbon reinforcements. All strong points and stress areas are strengthened with carbon reinforcements. The deck is bonded to the hull through the entire length and to all main bulkheads resulting in a strong and integrated unit.
- Biscuit and white two-tone deck
- Teak cockpit seating and flooring
- Integrated teak toe rail reinforcing the hull to deck joint
- Molded non-slip finish to ring deck and coachroof

VARIABLE DRAFT KEEL:
The 42 features the highly developed Swing Keel which gives the freedom and versatility to sail in almost any waters. With the keel lowered, the deep draft makes for fast, stable cruising in a seaway. At the ‘touch of a button’ the keel can be raised to give a shallow draft of just 0.84m (2' 9") - perfect for shallow water exploring.
The fixed ballast is an iron casting which acts as a grounding plate and stiffener for the keel and housing assembly. It is fitted into a recess in the hull in the area of the keel box with stainless steel bolts. The aerofoil shaped keel is cast iron and incorporates a stainless-steel pivot at the leading edge. The keel is raised and lowered by a dyneema pennant and hydraulic ram powered by an electrically driven pump with a hand operated back-up. All hydraulics are easily accessible for maintenance.
- Keel control and gauge showing keel position fitted at the helm
- Removable stainless-steel pin, positioned to enable the keel to be locked in the ‘up' position

Bill Bolin — CPYB
For 29 years, Bill was the public “face” of Island Packet Yachts to customers, dealers and industry members worldwide. A well-known speaker at boat shows, owner rendezvous' and marine-industry events, Bill had joined the fledgling boat builder in 1987, fulfilling a wide variety of roles over the years including customer service, dealer acquisition and training, sales, marketing, and quality assurance. Bill first got hooked on sailing at the age of 13 after sailing a Sunfish across the crystal-clear waters of Montego Bay, Jamaica. After graduating from college, he bought his first new boat, a Hobie 16, started a sailing school with a friend, and on a first date with his future wife, won the Hobie 16 Tri-State Championship with her as crew. After several years working as a marine patrol officer for the state of Ohio, Bill began selling yachts and teaching sailing for a Lake Erie dealership. He moved to Florida a few years later, where his new-boat sales acumen included models from companies such as Tartan, Pearson, C&C, S-2, Cal, Catalina, Beneteau, Morgan, Endeavour and, of course, Island Packet. Bill served nine years on the board of Sail America, including two terms as president, and was selected to be one of three judges for the 2018 Cruising World magazine Boat of the Year competition. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Yacht Broker’s Association of America as the current Vice President, and is a Certified Professional Yacht Broker. His in-depth knowledge of the industry and keen focus on customer relations make him a valued addition to the S&J Yachts team.
