Overall Review by Owner

Criteria at the time of renovation resulted in a 2 stateroom vessel to accommodate my family of 4, leaving the salon open for overflow guests.  A man size head with a walk in shower stall was a must.  A full galley, the coveted galley down refrigerator forward model which opens it up to the salon.  Maintenance in mind I needed an engine room large enough to allow a 6' tall 240 pound man comfortable access to all sides of the engines. A large bridge, where everyone likes to sit and enjoy the view and a good size cockpit with transom door to boat the big ones.  And most important a vessel  that didn't ride with its nose high in the air, plowing along no matter what the speed .

The boat was stripped of all the factory Hatteras  stainless trim, railings, ladder, removed the dated full tower and added a below deck livewell in the cockpit.  I installed a custom 1/2 tower with hard top and new aluminum ladder , rod holders and railings on the bridge. Added a Freedom 2500 inverter charger for the refrigerator and future cockpit freezer so the genset could be given a rest while underway or in cooler weather. Lee single spreader riggers were added and custom fit high on the sides of the bridge so they would allow easy passage to the bow from the cockpit. Sanded and fared everything from the rub-rail up and had it awlgriped.  New salon rear windows and door were fabricated and installed. A low profile electric davit , dinghy chocks and an 11' avon with 18hp was added to round things out.  There is a Murray fighting chair to handle the big ones.

New engines, lighter with more horsepower installed in 2005, were Two New Cummins 480CE diesels with ZF gears.  This required New props, Shafts, Shaft logs, Struts and Stuffing boxes.  Rudder cuttless bearings were changed at this time and the bottom painted.  Spray/lift rails were added for performance. The engine package came with digital displays and factory engine syncronizers.  New spin on filter system was installed for each engine with two pre-filters and the factory final filter per engine.  Single lever controls rounded out the package. The increase in HP from 330 to 480 per side and the shedding of weight had incredible results.  I could slow cruise at 19 to 20 mph , turning 1800-1900 rpm and get 1.25 mile per gallon.  If I wanted super economy I could idle along like a trawler at 1000 rpm at 9-10 mph and get approx 3 mpg.  Fast cruise at 2300 rpm was 23-24 mph at 1mpg.  top speed at 2600 rpm was 29 mph.  The sea trial comment from the Cummins mechanic, part of the purchase, was that the engines and boat were a perfect match.  The engines and gears are showroom new with about 50 hours of actual use since installed , free from rust and never re-painted.  A must see.
