Nick Hay

Nick is a licensed USCG Captain and in boating since the age of 12. He has cruised the Bahamas and raced in the Newport Beach to Ensenada, Mexico Sailboat Race many times. He became an expert in the technology of yachting electronics (i.e., GPS, Radar, electronic charting-MFDs, communications, entertainment, etc.) when he managed a division of a company that distributed electronics and related equipment to the boating industry (now retired.) Originally came from Southern California, he was an avid sailor; first sailing on a W.D. Schock 25′ racing sloop. He also piloted a 38′ Chris-Craft Motor Yacht, spending weekends ferrying the boat between Catalina Island and the mainland for the boat’s owner. Sailing small catamarans after college, he purchased his first boat in his 20’s, which happened to be the same Shock 25′ on which he first learned to sail. Up-sizing to Catalina’s, Nick then owned a Wellcraft “look-good-go-fast” Cuddy Express and a Monterey 31′ Express Cruiser. He then slowed down a bit to a 40′ Mainship Trawler and cruised the Bahamas in 2012. As a U.S. licensed Captain he has delivered sailboats from California to Mexico as well as raced many times in the Newport Beach to Ensenada Mexico Sailboat Race which has been the largest international sailboat race in the world. Nick was educated in Business, Chemistry and Information Technology at California State University Dominguez Hills and is also a U.S. Army veteran.
